Flood Forces Postponement of Thailand National Track Cycling Champs
Severe flooding at Bangkok's Hua Mak velodrome has postponed the final round of Thailand's National Track Cycling Championship for the Queen Sirikit Cup. Water reached chest height, making the track unusable for the October 9–11 event. The cycling association is restoring the venue and will announce a new date via its website and Facebook.
Deputy General Decha HMekkasri, who is also Vice President of the Asian Cycling Confederation, President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation, and President of the Thai Cycling Association under Royal Patronage, explained that widespread flooding across Thailand, especially in the Bangkok metropolitan area, has inundated the Hua Mak velodrome inside the Sports Authority of Thailand, with water reaching chest level. As a result, the final round of the 2026 National Track Cycling Championship for the Queen Sirikit Cup, originally set for October 9–11, cannot be held. The association is expediting repairs to return the track to normal and will set a new competition date as soon as the venue is ready, notifying members and stakeholders immediately through its website (www.thaicycling.or.th) and Facebook page (Thailand Cycling Association). An announcement was posted on October 1 asking clubs and concerned parties to monitor updates for the rescheduled event.
