Flooding Persists in Muang Thong Commercial Hub
Severe flooding has forced the closure of shops across Muang Thong commercial district in Nonthaburi Province, with four districts now declared disaster zones and drainage efforts struggling to keep pace with water levels.
The Muang Thong commercial district continues to suffer from severe flooding. Nonthaburi Province has declared four of six districts as disaster zones due to waterlogging: Muang Nonthaburi, Pak Kret, Bang Yai, and Sai Noi. The Popular Road entrance to Muang Thong via Chaengwattana Road remains impassable to small vehicles, forcing nearly all shops in this key economic area to close for two consecutive days.
Ing Kwat Decharatana, owner of Thong Aek Jewelry inside Muang Thong, described the impact as devastating. Though businesses previously weathered economic hardship, the flooding has compounded their troubles, leaving staff unable to come to work and customers unable to reach shops. The store has benefited from multiple branches, allowing staff at other locations to continue sales online and arrange deliveries.
Decharatana expressed frustration that despite lighter rainfall on day three compared to the previous two days, water levels have not subsided. He urged relevant authorities to accelerate drainage efforts to prevent further harm to traders.
