Food Delivery Rider Rescues Driver From Canal, Dismisses Hero Label
A delivery rider in Ratchaburi Province pulled a car driver from an irrigation canal after the vehicle plunged in during his food delivery route on August 6, though he downplayed his actions as a natural response rather than heroism.
A 38-year-old food delivery rider named Manashai, also known as Noo Yim Hom, and owner of a branch of the Kouy Teow Reua Tuk restaurant in Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province, rescued a driver trapped in a vehicle that had plunged into an irrigation canal. The incident occurred on August 6 at around 9:40 a.m. while Manashai was delivering food to customers. He witnessed a white electric sedan ahead of him suddenly lose control and plunge into the canal in Pak Ret Subdistrict, Ban Pong District. Without hesitation, he stopped his motorcycle and rushed to help. Initially unsure if there were multiple passengers, he told the driver to exit the vehicle immediately before the car was swept away by the current and submerged entirely.
Manashai confirmed the driver remained conscious and able to communicate, though likely shocked from the accident. He explained that his decision to help was instinctive—not knowing if there were other passengers or if the driver had lost consciousness, he simply did what he could. The driver was seen standing and calling family members after the rescue, suggesting they were safe.
Manashai emphasized that he does not view himself as a hero and believes most delivery riders would act the same way in such emergencies. He stated that riders routinely encounter such incidents during their work and naturally stop to assist. He described it as a simple human response, noting that as Thai citizens sharing the same country, people have a duty to help one another in times of crisis.
