Historic Gold: Vinut Wins Thailand's First Asian Games Badminton Title
Thailand's world number one badminton player Vinut Vititsantan defeated Singapore's Loh Kean Yew at the Asian Games in Japan, claiming Thailand's first-ever men's singles badminton gold medal at the regional competition.
Badminton competition at the 20th Asian Games took place on September 29 at Ishinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in the men's singles final.
The spotlight was on "View" Vinut Vititsantan, who officially became world number one today, competing against Singapore's Loh Kean Yew, ranked 13th in the world.
In the first game, both players fought competitively, but Vinut took control after the midpoint and won the first set 21-12.
In the second game, the two remained closely matched throughout, trading points back and forth before Vinut showed his form to secure victory 21-16.
Vinut Vititsantan has made history as the first Thai male singles badminton player to successfully win a gold medal at the Asian Games.
