Samedech Phra Yupharaj Leang Nok Tha Hospital has expressed deep regret after a nursing assistant accidentally severed the tip of a one-year-old boy's right index finger while removing an intravenous line. The boy's mother, from Yasothon Province, posted a complaint after the incident occurred on September 11 as the child was being prepared for discharge following treatment for respiratory and gastrointestinal infection.
According to the hospital's statement issued on September 13, the one-year-old had been admitted on September 2 and received treatment that progressively improved his condition. A doctor approved his discharge on September 11. However, while staff were removing the IV line, a severe error occurred when scissors accidentally cut the child's right index finger, causing it to be severed. The hospital immediately provided first aid and coordinated emergency care involving pediatric, surgical, and orthopedic specialists, and quickly arranged a referral to Sansai Prasong Hospital's plastic surgery department for specialized treatment.
The hospital has pledged comprehensive support including immediate psychological care, ongoing medical and nursing treatment both during hospitalization and after returning home, full coverage of medical expenses, transportation costs, and compensation in accordance with full legal rights. The hospital and Yasothon Provincial Public Health Office have issued a formal apology for the incident. Medical and nursing staff provided full assistance following the accident, and a comprehensive review of patient care procedures has been initiated to ensure patient safety going forward.
