Ice Truck Brake Failure Kills Foreign Husband of Police Officer
An ice delivery truck lost its brakes and slammed into a motorcycle on the Nakhon Phanom-Tha Uthen bypass road, killing the 69‑year‑old American husband of a female police officer. The truck then veered into a streetlight pole, leaving the victim trapped underneath and pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating the crash and have contacted the U.S. Embassy.
On October 12, 2026, Pol. Lt. Pichanon Pluemsut of the Mueang Nakhon Phanom Police Station was notified of the crash. Responding officers, along with staff from Nakhon Phanom Hospital, the VR Mekong Friendship rescue unit, and the Sawang Nawatha Phanom rescue team, arrived at the scene. They found a white Toyota ice‑truck (license plate Bor Tor 9050 Nakhon Phanom) that had hit the motorcycle, a white Honda Scoopy (license plate 1 Kor 329 Nakhon Phanom), and then struck a streetlight pole. The driver, 47‑year‑old Lamphon, stood by in shock. Under the truck lay the body of Daniel, a 69‑year‑old American resident of Chom Khong Village, who had been married to a female immigration officer for several years. Police cordoned off one lane, recovered the truck’s license plate and a black sandal from the grass, and noted that the motorcycle was crushed with its rear wheel bent and covered in vines. Authorities will review nearby CCTV footage, investigate the cause in detail, and contact the U.S. Embassy regarding the foreign national’s death.
