Insurance Commission Promotes National Disaster Coverage in Udon Thani
Insurance Commission Secretary-General Chuchat Pramuanpon visited Udon Thani alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Ekniyut Nitithanprapas to promote the government's National Disaster Insurance scheme. The program provides subsidized coverage for floods, storms, and earthquakes to roughly 30 million households nationwide from October 2026 to October 2027. Officials also publicized other insurance products for SMEs, farmers, and the general public to expand financial protection access across all segments of society.
On November 2, 2026, Insurance Commission Secretary-General Chuchat Pramuanpon, accompanied by Deputy Secretary-General Apakorn Panlerd, visited Udon Thani province. The trip coincided with a visit by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Ekniyut Nitithanprapas, Permanent Secretary Lawran Saengsanit, and senior ministry officials to deliver policy directives and monitor the performance of Finance Ministry agencies in the region. They were welcomed by Udon Thani Finance Ministry executives, the director of the Insurance Commission Regional Office 3 (Khon Kaen), and the director of the Udon Kaen Provincial Insurance Commission Office at the Udon Thani BAAC Agricultural Cooperative and the BAAC Tha Tum branch.
Secretary-General Chuchat stated that the field visit provided an excellent opportunity to integrate insurance-related missions in support of the government's economic policies. He emphasized that the insurance system serves as a crucial mechanism for managing risk and mitigating financial impacts from unforeseen events, including natural disasters, accidents, and occupational hazards. Accordingly, the Insurance Commission is committed to promoting universal access to insurance for all population segments, alongside building public knowledge and understanding of insurance benefits and protections, so that citizens can use insurance as a tool for risk management, securing themselves and their families, and strengthening the nation's economic resilience sustainably.
During the visit, the Insurance Commission operated a public relations booth to raise awareness about the importance of insurance as a risk management tool and a foundation for financial security. A key focus was promoting the "National Disaster Insurance" scheme, a flagship government policy providing coverage for approximately 30 million households nationwide. The government subsidizes premiums for the coverage period from October 1, 2026 to October 1, 2027, covering three types of natural disasters: floods, storms, and earthquakes. This aims to alleviate financial burdens and support the recovery of livelihoods following disasters. Additionally, the Commission promoted insurance products for SMEs, farmers, and the general public, including SME insurance, life insurance, health insurance, microinsurance, and compulsory motor insurance, enabling citizens to choose coverage appropriate to their risks and needs.
"This field visit to Udon Thani connects the Insurance Commission's mission with the genuine needs of people at the local level," Chuchat said. "We aim for the regional and provincial Insurance Commission offices, together with the local insurance industry, to serve as key mechanisms for building knowledge, understanding, and access to insurance systems suited to the risks of each target group. This will make insurance a vital tool for reducing financial vulnerability, supporting resilience against unforeseen events, and driving sustainable, stable growth of the grassroots and national economy."
