Japan Deploys 34,000 Staff for 2026 Asian Games
Japan will host the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya from September 19 to October 4, drawing nearly 20,600 athletes and officials from 45 nations competing across 43 sports for 469 gold medals.
Patama Leeswasdikal, an International Olympic Committee member and advisory committee member of the Olympic Council of Asia, revealed that 20,580 athletes and officials from 45 nations will participate in the 20th Asian Games in Japan from 19 September to 4 October 2026. The delegation comprises 11,000 athletes, 5,780 team officials, and 3,800 technical staff.
Leeswasdikal stated that the games are now underway in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, with some sports beginning competition ahead of schedule. Official medal competitions will run from 19 September to 4 October 2026. The host nation is conducting competitions across 43 sports with 469 gold medals at stake, utilizing 55 venues.
"The total number of athletes and officials from 45 nations participating is 20,580, consisting of 11,000 athletes, 5,780 team officials, and 3,800 technical staff," Leeswasdikal said. "The organizing committee has mobilized 34,000 staff members in total, comprising 4,000 officials and 30,000 volunteers. Media coverage has attracted 10,180 journalists to report on the competitions."
Leeswasdikal will fulfill her duties at the 20th Asian Games, attending the opening ceremony on 19 September 2026 and presenting gold medals in swimming, badminton, and volleyball, while also providing support to the Thai national team.
