Khao Kheow Zoo Welcomes Newborn White Rhino

Khao Kheow Open Zoo has introduced a new baby white rhino that has just opened its eyes to the world on World Rhino Day. The calf, which arrived in perfect timing for the September 22 World Rhino Day celebration, is the true younger brother of Power (Tank), another white rhino at the zoo.
The newborn was born to mother Grietjie and father Sudi after a gestation period exceeding 16 months. The calf is in excellent health, already standing and nursing on its own, and is receiving close care from the keepers and veterinarians at the African Animal Exhibition section of Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
The zoo announced plans to launch a public naming vote for the young rhino very soon through its Facebook page.
On the same day, Narongwit Chadchoy, director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, tasked assistant director Srisak Sukkum with organizing activities for World Rhino Day 2026. The event received support from Thai Oil Public Company Limited, represented by Pirasut Srithuach, public relations manager of the refinery division. The partnership aims to promote learning and wildlife conservation, sharing knowledge with the public and youth while raising awareness of the importance of natural resource and environmental protection.
Activities during the event include special programs by the Thai Oil group, exhibitions and educational activities about rhinos and conservation, learning activities for families and children, and initiatives promoting public participation in wildlife conservation. The occasion provides an opportunity for visitors and tourists to learn about rhinos up close and together build awareness and commitment to wildlife conservation.
