PTT Approves Bussabong Gas Field Investment

PTT Exploration and Production chief executive Montri Rawanchaikul announced that the company's subsidiary PTT Exploration and Production Energy Development has approved a final investment decision to develop the Bussabong natural gas field under the G 3/65 contract block in the Gulf of Thailand. The project builds on successful exploration surveys that identified the natural gas deposits and will now move into the development phase.

Development is expected to take approximately two years, with production targeted to begin in 2028 at roughly 30 million cubic feet per day before increasing to 40 million cubic feet per day by 2030 to meet Thailand's future energy demands. The Bussabong field will be connected via subsea pipelines to the central processing platform and production equipment of the Bongkoch North field in the nearby G 2/61 contract block, allowing efficient reuse of existing infrastructure and faster development.

The project remains subject to approvals from relevant government agencies. The company also plans to explore additional areas within the G 3/65 contract block, including a well drilling programme at Nong Yao Northeast to evaluate additional petroleum potential. Any discoveries could boost the project's future production capacity.

PTT Exploration and Production holds the G 3/65 exploration and production rights under a production sharing contract since 2023, covering approximately 11,647 square kilometres. Following completion of farm-out agreement conditions, the company will hold 60% of the investment share as operator, while Valura Energy (Chaiyapruek) Limited holds 40%. The company currently operates more than 50 exploration and production projects across 10 countries worldwide, with 20 projects in Thailand spanning both onshore and offshore areas.
