A 59-year-old man identified as Theeramat shot and killed his 71-year-old uncle Songa and 74-year-old aunt Suda at a residential property in Tambon Lahar, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province, before firing on relatives who rushed to help, injuring four more people in the process. On July 28, 2025, Direk, the 70-year-old older brother of the shooter, stated that the cause almost certainly stemmed from a property dispute. Direk revealed he had previously served as the estate manager for the disputed land and had designated a contested area as a common access route for family members, attempting to manage the arrangement fairly despite later being sued by the deceased relatives' side and eventually removed from the case.

Direk explained that after the lawsuit concluded through the legal system, the matter should have been resolved, but he does not understand what triggered his brother's actions, as the two did not communicate regularly. He noted that the land had been shared among family members for many years before the dispute arose and claimed not to know whether his brother had posted a sign on the contested area deliberately. Direk also stated he was unaware his brother owned a firearm and said his younger brother, though well-educated, appeared to believe Direk sided against him when in fact he had no involvement in the matter.

Thailand's Trade Commission Accepts Two Fuel Hoarding Cases

Thailand's Trade Commission accepted two cases involving fuel hoarding and unfair pricing practices from March 2025, including charges against a storage facility in Ang Thong Province and a major fuel distributor accused of restricting supp

Thailand's Trade Commission Accepts Two Fuel Hoarding Cases
28 Jul Khaosod

On July 23, 2025, Pol. Col. Pithaya Sirisak, a commissioner of the Thailand Competition Commission (TCC), announced that following the inaugural meeting of a subcommittee on digital platform trade conduct oversight, the committee discussed urgent regulatory measures. Particular focus was placed on issues affecting platform merchants, such as restrictive shipping requirements and unfair fees.

Regarding fuel price fluctuations and shortages in March 2025 stemming from hoarding that harmed the public and businesses nationwide, the TCC worked with multiple agencies from April to July 2025 to inspect fuel depots and monitor trader behavior across provinces. These investigations yielded evidence leading to two cases now under review:

1) A fuel storage facility in Ang Thong Province selling fuel at excessively high prices, constituting unfair pricing and anti-competitive conduct in violation of the Trade Competition Act B.E. 2560, Sections 50(1) and/or 57(1), carrying criminal penalties.

2) A major fuel distributor restricting fuel allocation to wholesale distributors (jobbers) while claiming to reserve supplies for its branded service stations—stations that received no increased allocation. This forced independent dealers to source from the sole remaining refinery at higher prices and longer wait times, harming businesses and the public. This conduct constitutes unfair conditions, unjustified supply restrictions, and anti-competitive practices under the Trade Competition Act, Sections 50(2)(3) and 57(1)(2)(3), carrying criminal penalties.

Associate Professor Sutham Yainai, vice-chairman of the TCC, added that the commission is actively overseeing competition in four major business sectors: digital platforms, modern trade (wholesale and retail), ride-hailing services, and online accommodation platforms (OTA). Subcommittees have been established to study, analyze, and recommend oversight guidelines for each sector, with findings due by the fourth quarter. The TCC is also refining conduct guidelines to clearly address evolving business practices.

A dog owner was alarmed when their pet went missing during the afternoon, only to realize they had accidentally left the dog waiting outside a supermarket for over two hours. The owner had taken an electric motorcycle to the shop in the morning and left the dog to guard the bike, but after finishing their shopping, they rushed home alone and forgot about their companion.

When the owner finally remembered and returned to the supermarket, they found the faithful dog still sitting by the motorcycle, having never wandered off. As soon as the dog spotted its owner, it happily ran over and wagged its tail, though its expression seemed to show both relief and disappointment at the same time.

The heartwarming story has since gone viral online, with netizens expressing affection for the dog while playfully teasing the owner with comments like "If the dog had a phone, it would've filed a missing person report by now," "The dog came bounding toward the owner, but probably felt bitter inside," and "It turns out the one who gets lost isn't the dog—it's the owner!"

Thailand Tightens Rules on Shareholder Documents to Combat Nominee Schemes

Thailand's business regulator is strengthening controls on shareholder documents starting August 2026 to prevent foreign nationals from illegally owning property through nominee schemes using Thai shell companies.

Thailand Tightens Rules on Shareholder Documents to Combat Nominee Schemes
28 Jul Khaosod

The Department of Business Development is tightening oversight of shareholder registry copies to block nominee schemes, which undermine business transparency and state law enforcement. Department director Poonpong Nainapakon said the department prioritizes preventing and combating the use of Thai nationals as nominee representatives by integrating corporate data systems with relevant agencies for inspection and law enforcement, helping to detect nominees efficiently and protect economic stability.

One major problem the department is investigating with the Land Department is foreign nationals illegally holding real estate and land through shell companies. Under land law, foreigners cannot directly own such property but instead use nominee structures, repeatedly changing directors and shareholders to evade the law rather than conducting legal transactions. Initial inspections have found companies where foreigners hold no more than 49% of shares—listed as Thai—a structure that may constitute nominee use or allow Thai nationals to hold shares on behalf of foreigners to acquire property.

To ensure proper understanding, starting August 1, 2026, the department will add a disclaimer to all shareholder copies stating: "The registrar accepted this shareholder list as submitted by company directors. Providing a copy is not a certification of the authenticity of the shareholding status shown. Determining who is a shareholder requires checking the shareholder register held by the company, which is presumed under law to be accurate evidence—not a copy held by the registrar." This ensures all agencies and the public understand the legal requirements and apply correct procedures.

Poonpong said the department's approach aligns with a Supreme Administrative Court judgment establishing that registrars only receive and store documents as legally required and do not certify shareholding status or rights. Shareholder verification must come from the register the company itself maintains. Under law, the department receives shareholder lists from company directors for filing and public inspection under the Civil and Commercial Code Section 1020.

Dead Man's Brother Vows No Forgiveness For Nephew In Land Dispute Shooting

A man fatally shot his uncle and aunt over a decade-long land dispute in Nonthaburi province, injuring four others, while the victim's brother vows he will never forgive his nephew and demands maximum prosecution.

Dead Man's Brother Vows No Forgiveness For Nephew In Land Dispute Shooting
28 Jul Khaosod

The brother of the shooting victim has vowed not to forgive his nephew, who burst in and opened fire on his aunt and uncle over a land dispute that had simmered for more than a decade. The victims had apparently distributed defamation cards against the perpetrator before the shooting, though the brother claims he does not know what drove the attack.

The incident involved 59-year-old Theemat (name withheld), who fatally shot 71-year-old Songa and 74-year-old Suda (names withheld), his uncle and aunt, who were husband and wife, inside a house in Laharn subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong district, Nonthaburi province. He then fired on relatives who rushed to help, injuring four people in total.

On July 28, 2025, a reporter visited the two-story home where the victims lived. The area was cordoned off by authorities. The reporter spoke with Songwan (name withheld), 65, the deceased's biological younger brother.

Songwan explained that the root cause was a land dispute that had festered for over a decade. The perpetrator had wanted to expand a disputed road section from 3 meters to 4 meters and have it declared public land. He reportedly wanted to mortgage his own property but could not because it was classified as a dead zone.

The dispute had escalated into arguments but never into physical violence, as both men were uncle and nephew. Legal proceedings had been filed between the perpetrator and Suda, but the case had concluded about two years earlier. The disputed area eventually became an accepted boundary, marked by a fence.

Songwan said he believed the matter had been resolved and that there would be no further trouble. He was shocked when the shooting occurred and does not understand what motivated his nephew to act. Before the incident, Songwan heard that Songa had distributed "defamation cards" against the perpetrator at various locations, though he did not know why. Songwan does not believe Songa had threatened the perpetrator, describing his brother as a peacemaker who counseled against harsh words.

Regarding the perpetrator, Songwan said he appeared to be a normal, even-tempered man who had never quarreled with anyone and went about his daily work and community activities routinely. The perpetrator lived in the house with his wife and child, though Songwan said he does not know if they were aware of the dispute.

After learning of the shooting, Songwan said his composure broke because he could not fathom how a blood relative could commit such an act. He stated firmly that he will not forgive the perpetrator and expects the authorities to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law as a cautionary example. He compared the situation to a child harming a parent—something that cannot be forgiven.

Quick-Thinking Shop Owner Thwarts Counterfeit Bill Scam

A shop owner in Chumphon Province spotted counterfeit 1,000-baht notes during a suspicious money-transfer request on July 27, prompting two men to flee on a motorcycle when she refused the fake bills.

Quick-Thinking Shop Owner Thwarts Counterfeit Bill Scam Two teenagers fled on a motorcycle after discovering the bills were fake. On July 28, 2026, reporters met with Orawun, 36, and Parinyakorn, 46, a couple who own a mobile phone shop called Saphli Mobile along the Chumphon-Saphli road in Patiew District, Chumphon Province, after learning they had nearly become victims of a counterfeit currency gang.

Orawun recalled that on July 27 at around 3 p.m., while the shop was open, two young men arrived on a Honda Wave motorcycle with an unknown license plate and asked her to help transfer money into a bank account. The man who spoke had an accent suggesting he was from Tha Sae District.

When she asked for the destination account number, she found it was registered under a woman's name that did not match the man who came with him. However, she was not immediately suspicious, so she asked to receive the cash first before making the transfer. The man then handed her five 1,000-baht notes.

Upon careful inspection of the bills—including checking the watermark and using a counterfeit detection pen—she found there was no royal portrait, the paper thickness was abnormal, and she confirmed that four bills were counterfeit and only one was genuine. She immediately informed both men that the notes were fake.

The man claimed he did not know the bills were counterfeit and said he had received the money from an older contact. However, the shop owner said she would only return the genuine bill and would keep the four counterfeit notes as evidence to file a police report. Both men became alarmed and quickly left the shop, fleeing on their motorcycle.

Orawun noted that she had previously heard of merchants in the market being victimized by criminals using counterfeit 1,000-baht notes to purchase goods. Although this seemed to be a different group, she did not expect it would happen to her own shop. She plans to bring all the counterfeit bills to Patiew Police Station as evidence and asked officers to accelerate their investigation to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.
