Major Mill Fire Deploys 50 Fire Trucks; Blaze Still Uncontrolled
A massive fire at a rice mill warehouse in Phetchaburi Province remains largely uncontrolled despite 50 fire trucks responding since early afternoon, with firefighters using a remote robot to battle flames through dense smoke.
A fire at Twee Ruammit Rice Mill warehouse in Sammaroeng Subdistrict, Muang Phetchaburi District, Phetchaburi Province, began around 12:55 p.m. Despite deploying over 50 fire trucks, firefighters have not achieved full containment as of the latest update at 6:30 p.m.
Peeraphas Sangwattanayutthi, Phetchaburi Deputy Governor, reported that authorities are mobilizing firefighting resources from local administration organizations, rescue foundations, and neighboring provinces including Prachuap Khiri Khan, Samut Songkhram, and even Bangkok, bringing a combined total of 50 vehicles to the scene.
Because the site is a storage warehouse, officials prioritized safety by restricting personnel access and requesting a remote-controlled firefighting robot from Police Region 4 Headquarters in Prachuap Khiri Khan to operate inside the building. This approach has proven more effective than external operations due to dense smoke. Smoke has decreased significantly, and firefighters have gained control of approximately 60-70% of the blaze.
For residents within a 5-kilometer radius, health officials distributed face masks and monitored vulnerable populations. Residents in downwind areas have been asked to temporarily relocate to local health stations.
