At 1:30 a.m. on September 9, Lieutenant Colonel Sunant Nakanikhom, superintendent of Ron Phibun Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat, received notification of a body found electrocuted in a canal in Moo 6, Ron Phibun Subdistrict. He responded with on-duty medical staff and rescue workers from the Siam Ruan Jai Pu In Ron Phibun Foundation to investigate.
When they arrived, they found the body of Pornthep, a nearby resident, lying dead in the canal water with electrical wiring draped across his body and wrapped around his legs. A 3-meter bamboo pole with a metal cage attached and electrical wiring tied to it was also discovered at the scene. Death had occurred at least 3 hours before discovery.
Investigation determined that Pornthep had constructed an electrically wired metal cage to illegally fish in the canal behind his home. After leaving his house, he was absent for an unusually long time, prompting family members to go out searching. They found his body lying dead in the canal and notified authorities.
Offcials believe Pornthep accidentally electrocuted himself while attempting to fish in the canal behind his home when the electrical device malfunctioned. Investigators will gather further evidence and determine the precise cause to proceed with legal action. After the autopsy was completed, the body was released to family members for traditional funeral arrangements.
