A 33-year-old man has been arrested for killing his neighbor after a dispute over a barking dog. On July 20, Ban Paeng police received a report of a man found dead near a kitchen shelter with severe head injuries from a blow to the back of the skull. The suspect, Patthanpisutti, was the last person seen with the victim and initially denied involvement before turning himself in and confessing. According to his statement, Patthanpisutti had been drinking with the victim when the man's dog began barking. Annoyed, he struck the dog once with a wooden stick, which angered the victim, who verbally challenged him to hit him instead. In a fit of rage, Patthanpisutti grabbed a bamboo stick and struck the victim once on the head, causing him to collapse and die. He then disposed of the stick and a liquor bottle in a water tank to conceal evidence before fleeing. Remorseful, he later surrendered to police and is being held for prosecution.

Conicle Launches Skills Platform to Address Thailand's Workforce Gap
22 Jul Khaosod

Thailand's workplace is entering a critical turning point as a "skills mismatch" crisis threatens to worsen over the next 3–5 years. Five key factors are accelerating this crisis: AI technology rapidly obsoleting traditional skills, businesses and foreign investors slowing investment due to inadequate workforce readiness, education systems failing to keep pace with AI-era labor markets, working-age people shouldering greater family responsibilities amid an aging society and shrinking workforce, and widening skills gaps that limit employment opportunities. Research from the Adult Skills Assessment in Thailand (ASAT) indicates the country faces a projected revenue loss of 3.3 trillion baht—or 20.1% of GDP in 2024—because workers lack skills aligned with economic demand. Without systemic workforce skill upgrades across all sectors, this crisis will balloon into a competitive disadvantage that undermines Thailand's future.

To address this crisis, Conicle, a leader in comprehensive skills development and learning solutions, is unveiling "Conicle Skills," a comprehensive platform designed to transform organizations into Skills-Based Organizations that focus on workers' actual capabilities rather than job titles. The platform aims to create workforce flexibility, allowing employees to transition between roles and apply new skills to navigate rapid change. The company emphasizes that "people are an organization's first button," meaning continuous learning and skill development are essential for workplace readiness.

Nakorn Pruekkhipattana, CEO and co-founder of Conicle, revealed that Conicle Skills goes beyond traditional Learning Management and Learning Experience platforms by integrating AI into a "Skills + AI + Ecosystem" framework. The platform uses AI to transform learning from the traditional Knowledge–Attitude–Skills (10%–20%–70%) model into accelerated skills creation for a skills-driven workforce. It combines skill development pathways with curricula from leading institutions and expert creators, all backed by state-approved standards.

A 35-year-old man died after his speedboat capsized in the middle of the Trang River. He attempted to swim to shore but exhausted and disappeared beneath the water. Rescue officials searched for more than three hours before recovering his body.

At 4 p.m. on July 22, 2025, Kantang Police Station received a report of a capsized speedboat with a missing person in the Trang River near Ban Kok Sai, Yan Sue Sub-district, Kantang District, Trang Province. Following the report, police, Kantang River Police, Trang City Municipality Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, rescue units, and divers from Kusol Satarn Foundation Trang and Sawang Pattanakij Trang Foundation coordinated the search and rescue operation.

The incident occurred in the middle of the river, requiring officials and divers to conduct the search from boats despite strong currents. Based on eyewitness information, they searched approximately 50 meters downstream from where the boat sank and about 10 meters from shore. After approximately three hours of searching, they found the body of 35-year-old Ranchai before bringing him ashore amid the grief of waiting family members.

Investigation revealed that around 3:30 p.m., a good Samaritan fishing on the riverbank witnessed Ranchai operating the speedboat at high speed before the boat suddenly broke apart and capsized. He fell into the river and attempted to swim to shore but eventually exhausted and disappeared beneath the water before officials recovered his body.

Initially, officials transported the body to Kantang Hospital for autopsy according to procedure before releasing it to the family for religious rites.

Road Project Only 40% Complete With 6 Days Left

A 9.3 million baht road project in Yasothon province is only 40% complete with six days remaining, and officials have flagged a suspicious seven-day extension as potential corruption designed to shield the contractor from penalty fines.

Road Project Only 40% Complete With 6 Days Left
22 Jul Khaosod

On July 22, 2026, Prakop Mangkang, director of the Yasothon provincial Ombudsman's Office, led officials to inspect a special-purpose subsidy project titled 'Road Surface Expansion with Asphalt Concrete Reinforcement, Drainage Pipe Installation, and Solar Street Lights on Soi Tesaban 18,' budgeted at 9.324 million baht under Kudchumphattana Subdistrict Municipality.

The 180-day project (January 28 – July 27, 2026) has progressed only 40 percent, with major work still pending including 160 catch basins, 900 reinforced concrete pipes, and asphalt paving. Completion within the remaining six days is practically impossible.

A serious concern arose when the inspection committee voted to extend the contract by seven additional days (until August 3, 2026), citing inadequate grating cover specifications—a minor component issue used to justify extending a deadline for work that is 60 percent incomplete. The Ombudsman's Office flagged this as high-risk potential corruption designed to shield the contractor from daily penalty fines, constituting favoritism and state loss.

The Ombudsman's Office recommended the municipality delay approval and consult the State Audit Office and provincial treasury for careful legal review. Officials also stressed that if the July 27 deadline passes, penalties must be assessed immediately, and site supervisors must strictly monitor construction quality and public safety without allowing the contractor to cut corners on engineering standards.

Thai Beauty Brand Subi Launches Hair Setting Mascara for Digital-Age Women

Thai beauty brand Subi has launched a hair-setting mascara designed to combat frizz and flyaways in Thailand's humid climate, created by three co-founders who identified the gap after finding existing products unsuitable for local condition

Thai Beauty Brand Subi Launches Hair Setting Mascara for Digital-Age Women
22 Jul Khaosod

Subi Hair Setting Mascara has become an essential product for women seeking a quick beauty fix, solving problems like frizzy hair and flyaways in a convenient, pocket-sized format—essential for the digital age where time is precious. Co-founders Lily Chaemmankhang and Junior Rattanasuntorn, who work in content creation and regularly shoot photos and videos, constantly battled messy hair, especially frizz and flyaways triggered by Thailand's hot, humid weather. They searched for products to address these issues, but existing market offerings failed to meet their needs in terms of convenience, staying power, and compatibility with Thai hair texture. While traveling abroad, they discovered hair setting mascaras popular in some Asian countries, but testing these products revealed they weren't designed for Thai climate conditions.

This inspired the creation of Subi brand. Co-founder Mew Thanawatsakchaseree, who has experience working in large organizations handling business strategy, brought strategic thinking to complement Lily and Junior's beauty and fashion expertise. Market research revealed Thailand's beauty industry is in growth phase, with cosmetics market value expanding from approximately 70 billion baht 20 years ago to 400 billion baht today, growing 6-7% annually. The rising T-Beauty trend and Thailand's recovering tourism presented an opportunity to build a Thai brand that develops products from genuine consumer needs, appealing to both local consumers and foreign tourists seeking Thai beauty products as souvenirs.

Subi, which stands for "Simple But Iconic," aims to develop easy-to-use products that save time on personal grooming while maintaining distinctive character suited to modern lifestyle. The brand's first product, Subi Hair Setting Mascara, is designed for convenient, anywhere use without requiring hair spray or styling gel. The brand emphasizes distinctive, eye-catching packaging because today's consumers seek products that are convenient to carry and use anywhere, not just functional ones. Subi officially launched in July 2025 using a marketing strategy focused on creator and influencer communities, receiving overwhelming response. Within months, Subi became a contender for "Favorite Item of the Year 2025," with several products selling out and prompting pre-orders. The brand currently sells through online channels and retail partnerships.

Invasive Nutria Ravage Palm Oil Farms, South Fears Economic Disaster

Invasive Nutria Ravage Palm Oil Farms, South Fears Economic Disaster
22 Jul Khaosod

Invasive African nutria are causing severe damage to palm oil plantations in Chumphon province's Ta Sae district, prompting urgent calls for government intervention. A field inspection of a 64-year-old farmer's 22-hectare palm oil plantation—planted to replace rubber trees—revealed that large rodent-like animals with sharp teeth have stripped bark from the bases of young 1–2-year-old palms, killing some immediately and leaving others withered. The farmer reported that over 300 of his 500 newly planted saplings have been damaged, and his attempts to control the population using traps and rodent poison have failed; he managed to catch only two nutria before they learned to avoid traps, and hundreds have now been born, attacking nearly every palm tree.

The infestation is not limited to this farm; over 10 neighboring farming families in the area face identical losses. Officials warn that without decisive action, damage could spread across Chumphon province and engulf all 14 Southern provinces, home to Thailand's and the world's most significant oil palm cultivation areas. The provincial Farmers' Council chairman has ordered members to gather damage data for an emergency meeting and coordinate with agricultural agencies to research and implement urgent eradication and compensation measures.

African nutria were first introduced to Thailand from the African continent in 1994 by foreign merchants in Ratchaburi province, marketed as a new "economic animal" claimed to be easy to raise, quick-growing, grass-eating, and valuable for meat, fur, and hide exports. Many Thai farmers fell victim to the scheme, purchasing breeding stock at inflated prices; when farming proved unprofitable due to lack of market demand from 1995–1999, many farmers secretly released nutria into natural waterways. The species has since become a national environmental crisis, devastating rice fields, vegetables, fruit orchards, and aquatic plants, and is now destroying the South's signature oil palm industry.

Seven Asian Nations Including Thailand Bid for 2046 World Cup

Seven Asian nations including Thailand, South Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore are jointly bidding to host the 2046 FIFA World Cup, leveraging their existing stadium infrastructure and capacity.

Seven Asian Nations Including Thailand Bid for 2046 World Cup
22 Jul Khaosod

Japan is preparing a joint bid with six other Asian countries to host the 2046 FIFA World Cup, bringing together nations from East Asia and Southeast Asia, according to the Japan Football Association (JFA).

The proposed bid would include Japan, South Korea and China from East Asia, along with Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore from Southeast Asia.

The JFA said the seven-nation proposal was based on the countries' existing football infrastructure and stadium capacity. Among the Southeast Asian candidates, Malaysia's Bukit Jalil National Stadium can hold nearly 90,000 spectators, while Indonesia has two venues with capacities of more than 80,000 — Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and Jakarta International Stadium. Thailand's Rajamangala National Stadium has a capacity of around 70,000, while Singapore's National Stadium can accommodate about 55,000 fans.

Vietnam was not included in the proposed bid, reportedly due to concerns over sports infrastructure. The country's My Dinh National Stadium has a capacity of just over 40,000 and has faced criticism in recent years over its ageing condition and outdated design.

The 2046 World Cup is expected to follow an expanded format featuring at least 48 teams, a structure that will require larger stadiums, stronger transport networks and more extensive facilities. FIFA is expected to begin the selection process for the 2046 host around 2031.
