A 26-year-old man seized a police officer's gun before committing a tragic act inside the police station in front of several officers. A note was found left behind, claiming he was being hunted and had a bounty of 58 million baht on his head. At 00:24 on October 5, 2026, in front of Mueang Rayong Police Station, Pol. Col. Atit Ya-kaew, Superintendent of Mueang Rayong Police Station, said that Ekanarin (surname withheld), aged 26, had entered the station to charge his mobile phone and sat for a long time. Later, Ekanarin began behaving strangely, walking back and forth, up and down the station, muttering paranoidly that people were chasing him and that he had a bounty of 58 million baht. Officers tried to talk him down. Meanwhile, Pol. Sgt. Maj. Nantapong Daray, commander of the prevention and suppression unit, together with several highway patrol officers, were sitting at a marble table in front of the station inspecting the red logbook, and had told Ekanarin to go home and rest, as he seemed to have calmed down. However, while Nantapong was distracted, Ekanarin approached from behind from a blind spot, quickly snatched the officer's 9mm pistol from his right hip, and used it to shoot himself in front of several officers before they could intervene. After the incident, forensic officers and medical examiners rushed to the scene, found Ekanarin's body lying on the ground behind a police van, with the 9mm pistol—belonging to Pol. Sgt. Maj. Nantapong Daray—found in his right hand. The weapon was collected as evidence. Officers also recovered a suicide note from the deceased, which read: 'I have lived in fear all my life. I have a bounty on my head. I have no chance to survive. I do not want to be beheaded. I therefore chose to come here. If I succeed, I want to be cremated immediately. I want my head to be given to those involved and accomplices—beware of slipping up, or you will be eliminated.' Relatives said the deceased had no family, lived with his older brother and uncle in Nikhom Phatthana district, and had only recently started work at a factory in Ban Khai district, just one week prior. Pol. Sgt. Maj. Nantapong Daray, recounting the event with shock, said that while he was checking the red logbook with colleagues, the deceased walked nearby. He tried to calm him and told him to go home and rest, thinking the situation would resolve peacefully, but the man seized the moment when Nantapong let his guard down, grabbed the gun, and carried out the act swiftly.
