Woman's Body Discovered Floating in Udon Thani Canal
A woman's body was found floating in Huai Dan Canal in Udon Thani, initially mistaken for a bloated python. Police say the corpse had been in the water for at least two days, showed animal bites, and had no obvious signs of violence. Authorities are working to identify the victim and locate relatives.
On October 5, 2026, Police Lieutenant Songphop Khomjai, deputy inspector (investigations) at Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, revealed that on October 4 they received a report of a body floating in Huai Dan Canal near Ban Bo Sang, Village 7, Ban Lueam Subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani District. Officers, forensic doctors from Udon Thani Hospital, and rescue volunteers from the Udorn Thani Santi Dhamma Foundation arrived at the scene. The female body was recovered from the water for autopsy; preliminary assessment indicated death had occurred at least two days earlier, with no visible injuries suggesting foul play. Examination of the victim's possessions revealed five 20‑baht banknotes totaling 100 baht and a drug‑test kit pouch. A small crab was found inside her shirt, and there were clear marks of aquatic animal bites. The body has been forwarded for comprehensive identification to determine her identity and notify any relatives. The first witness, 67‑year‑old Mr. Chaloem (surname withheld), said he lives near the canal and went to check the water flow when he saw what he thought was a large python. After throwing a stone to test the object, he saw it move and realized it was a human corpse, prompting him to call authorities immediately. Residents refer to the waterway as Huai Dan Canal; the spot where the body was first seen lies about 300 meters from his house. It remains unclear whether the deceased is a local resident. Police continue to verify identity and missing‑person reports while awaiting the final autopsy results. Anyone who believes they may know the victim is urged to contact Mueang Udon Thani Police Station.
