Militants Launch Coordinated Attacks Across Three Southern Border Provinces
Militants launched a coordinated series of attacks across Yala, Narathiwat, and Pattani provinces on August 22, setting fires, detonating bombs, scattering nail-studded tires, and carrying out armed robberies. Security forces deployed immediately to investigate multiple incident sites and assess damage across the southern border region.
On August 22, 2026, coordinated unrest erupted simultaneously across three southern border provinces as armed groups dispersed to conduct arson, bomb attacks, nail-studded tire deployments, and robberies causing damage in multiple areas.
In Yala Province (starting around 8:30 p.m.), militants set fire to a government vehicle in Ban Haeo subdistrict and burned a telephone signal tower near Sri Than Nam in Thar To District. They burned car tires in Ban Tanaepute, Bannangstoa District, set fire to billboards on Highway 418 in Muang Yala, scattered nail-studded tires in front of a Bangchak fuel station heading toward Niang village in Budi Subdistrict, burned tires near a Chinese cemetery and Ton Yee village, and left a suspicious object near Ban Yala curve in Lam Mai Subdistrict.
In Narathiwat Province (Cho Airong District), at 8:30 p.m. and 8:35 p.m., car tires were set ablaze in Moo 9 of Bukit and Maroboek subdistricts. At 8:36 p.m., militants redirected CCTV cameras in Moo 3 of Chop Subdistrict. At 8:40 p.m., an explosion occurred at a DTAC telephone signal tower in Moo 2 of Chop Subdistrict, with another explosion-like sound heard at 8:50 p.m.
In Pattani Province (around 8:45 p.m.), armed militants fired weapons and placed a suspicious object at Bang Pu intersection, used firearms to rob a Seven-Eleven convenience store at Bang Pu branch, and set car tires ablaze on Highway 42 near Yaring Hospital.
Security forces in all three southern border provinces are currently investigating the areas, collecting evidence, and compiling damage reports urgently.
