Thailand's Olympic preparation team, led by riders Chutathip Manibandhit and Jai Angsudasawit, will compete before returning to China for final training before the Nagoya Games.
General Decha Hemkraisuree, vice president of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), president of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and president of the Thai Cycling Association, explained that the competition will include national teams from Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Malaysia, Macau, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, along with 23 club teams from various countries including South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Australia, Qatar, Indonesia, Sweden, the United States, Cuba, and Slovakia.
"This Class 1 UCI event allows athletes to accumulate world ranking points toward Olympic qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, as well as secure invitations to Nations Cup and World Championships," Decha said. "With over 1,000 athletes and officials from 38 teams across 19 countries, this is a historic turnout that will boost local economies through spending at shops, restaurants, and tourist attractions while also promoting tourism throughout the region."
Decha added that the opening ceremony on August 28 at 2 p.m. will be presided over by Dato Amajiit Singh Gill, president of the Asian Cycling Confederation, and will feature traditional Thai performances including a Ramakien-themed khon dance from Ramkhamhaeng University and a pi phat ensemble from Vachiravudhit College.
