A 33-year-old woman known as Lukpla, who disappeared after leaving her sister's house in Mueang Kanchanaburi district with her boyfriend Nath on August 28, was found traveling on a Chiang Mai-Kanchanaburi bus service to return home. Security camera footage from her sister's house showed Lukpla driving to the house before Nath arrived to pick her up. When Lukpla's mother and teenage son messaged Nath to ask about her whereabouts, he denied being with her, and the family lost all contact with Lukpla. Concerned that she might be in danger—particularly as she had never left her 13-year-old son for such a long period before—the family and friends reported her missing. Police located Nath's pickup truck in Chiang Mai.
When found, Lukpla appeared cheerful and showed no signs of physical harm or coercion. She told police she was safe and had not been abused or forced. She explained that she could not contact her family because her phone had no signal and she was unable to return home after quarreling with Nath during their trip. Deputy Pol. Col. Chompol Ruchiradamrongchai, deputy commander of Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, personally questioned her at Phanom Tuan Police Station.
Lukpla stated that she and Nath traveled to Chiang Mai, where Nath took her to a border resort and kept her confined to a room while he went out to meet friends and run errands. During her stay in Chiang Mai, she did not leave the room, and Nath brought her food and water. After a few days, they quarreled because she wanted to go home but Nath would not return. After not seeing each other again and learning that her family was searching for her, she decided to travel back home on a bus by herself.
However, her account contradicts information gathered by police investigators. While Lukpla claimed that Nath regularly brought her food and water using the pickup truck, police found the vehicle was abandoned and had false license plates that did not match the chassis number. Police will conduct further questioning with Lukpla before allowing her family to take her home. Investigators are continuing to locate Nath and gather more information to clarify why the pair traveled to Chiang Dao district in Chiang Mai.
