Interior Ministry Launches Book for Princess Sirivannavari's 40th
Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Arssith Sampantharat launched the picture book 'Nariratana Hattasilp' to honor Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya on her 40th birthday, celebrating her efforts to sustain Thai fabric and handicraft traditions. The book, part of a yearly historical picture series, showcases work from the Thai Fabric Fun project that coaches and contests artisans across all 76 provinces. Winners receive an audience with the princess and medals, while UNESCO has recognized the princess’s contributions to cultural heritage.
Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Arssith Sampantharat said the book 'Nariratana Hattasilp' was produced under the historical picture book project to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, marking the fifth such publication since 2022. He explained that the initiative aims to preserve and promote Thai fabric and handicraft identity nationwide, with the Thai Fabric Fun project providing coaching and contests in all 76 provinces to select outstanding textiles for a final round in Bangkok, where winners receive an audience with the princess and are awarded medals. He added that the princess’s work has been recognized by UNESCO Director‑General Audrey Azoulay, who conferred a medal of honour for her contributions to cultural heritage preservation, fine arts promotion, and the creative industries in Thailand. Sampantharat noted that the Interior Ministry’s reach—through provincial governors and the Department of Community Development—helps upgrade product designs, colors, and the capabilities of local artisans, ensuring the sustainability of Thailand’s textile heritage.
