The government has clarified that September electricity bills will use new rates for all households automatically, with no registration needed. State welfare card holders must register separately to claim electricity assistance of up to 315 baht per month.

Deputy Government Spokesman Lalida Periwiwattana explained on July 23, 2025 that the new residential electricity rate structure was approved by the National Energy Policy Committee and applies to all households without requiring registration or app downloads. Under the Interior Ministry's oversight, Regional Electricity Authority (PEA) and Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) will begin applying the new rates from August usage, which will appear on September bills onwards.

Under the new rate structure, all residential properties will pay no more than 3 baht per unit for the first 200 units at no additional cost. Usage above 201 units will be charged at the original rate. Temporary meter rates have also been adjusted to match residential electricity rates to reduce household expenses.

Beyond the new rates, state welfare card holders continue to receive electricity assistance of up to 315 baht per household monthly under the existing program, but must register with the electricity authority. Registration opened from July 20 through September 30, 2025.

Periwiwattana stated that the National Energy Policy Committee, Interior Ministry, Energy Ministry, PEA, and MEA will separate public electricity costs from household bills at approximately 0.09 baht per unit, providing automatic cost savings to all users.

"The government reiterates that the new residential electricity rate is an automatic benefit for all households—no registration, no app required. You will see results on bills for electricity used in August, billed in September 2025. State welfare card holders seeking the 315-baht monthly assistance must register with their electricity provider within the set timeframe to avoid missing the benefit," Periwiwattana said.

On July 23, Chachoengsao police received a report of a gunfire dispute resulting in injuries near the Bang Kla Highway Police service unit in Tha Thong Luang subdistrict. Officers found Sergeant Yutthapong shot multiple times with a 9mm handgun in the chest, left arm, and hip, with bullets lodged in his body. He remained conscious and was transported to Buddhasothorn Hospital. At the scene, police apprehended Officer Pitsanu Malayson, who was waiting to surrender. Preliminary investigation revealed both officers work at the same service station with rotating 10-day shifts. Yutthapong is the station supervisor; Pitsanu's shift happened to start that day. The two, along with approximately 10 other police personnel, had attended a gathering at a restaurant in Plaeng Yao district. Tensions over work-related matters began at the restaurant and continued after they returned to the service station. Unable to resolve the dispute verbally, Pitsanu retrieved a handgun and fired over 10 shots, seriously wounding Yutthapong. A nearby resident heard shouting and multiple gunshots, then witnessed the incident through a window. Police are collecting evidence and will pursue legal proceedings.

In Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai, heavy rain and powerful gusts of wind toppled a large tree onto a white pickup truck, crushing the roof and front fenders. Power lines were also damaged at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported.

On July 22, 2025, Rача Kamphinit, subdistrict headman of Ta Ton, reported the natural disaster in Ta Ton Subdistrict, Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province. The fallen tree caused severe damage to the pickup truck, with the roof and front bumper area completely collapsed.

The strong winds also brought down power lines in the area. An initial inspection found no reports of injuries or fatalities from the incident.

Following the incident, the Ta Ton Subdistrict Administration coordinated with the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office to deploy chainsaws and machinery to cut, trim, and remove the fallen tree debris that was blocking the vehicle and surrounding area.

Simultaneously, the Mae Ai District Provincial Electricity Authority was contacted to dispatch crews to repair and restore the damaged power lines, ensuring public safety and restoring electricity service to normal as quickly as possible.
