Officials Rush to Address Water Shortage in Roi Et Village
A severe drought has left the tap‑water well in Khok Saeng village, Roi Et, dry, forcing residents to fetch water from a school borehole. Officials are rushing to pump water from a nearby canal to replenish the well by October 9, aiming to restore tap‑water production before the rainy season ends.
On 7 October, Deputy Governor Nantawit Naksang of Roi Et province visited Khok Saeng village in Pho Phar sub-district after reports that the village’s water production well (Nong Khu Khad) had dried up, with no inflow to the reservoir and insufficient supply for tap water. He was joined by the Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Roi Et, the Mueang Roi Et district chief, department heads, and local leaders. Discussions with Pho Phar Sub-district Municipality revealed that villagers are currently collecting water from a school borehole and transporting it home by cart. The municipality has already submitted a budget request to drill a new borehole and build a water supply system to the Department of Water Resources. Nantawit said they plan to pump water from the Khaen Canal, about 1.8 kilometres away, to replenish Nong Khu Khad, seeking support for a long‑distance water pump from the Region 6 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office in Khon Kaen. The goal is to complete the work by 9 October to store water for tap‑water production before the rainy season ends, confident it will ease this year’s dry‑season hardship.
