Rama Medical Students Stage Charity Drama for Hospital Fundraising
Mahidol University medical students are staging their 19th annual charity drama production to raise funds for Ramathibodi Hospital projects and patient care initiatives. Over 100 third-year students handled all creative aspects of the show
The Rama Drama charity theatre programme, held annually by third-year medical students at Ramathibodi Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Mahidol University, gives students a chance to showcase their talents in art and humanities beyond their medical studies, embodying the motto "Work together with intention, and the result is public benefit."
The 19th edition of Rama Drama will raise funds for Ramathibodi Hospital building projects, the Yothi Innovation District, and the Ramathibodi Foundation under Royal Patronage of Princess Sirindhorn, to support patient care, strengthen medical education, and develop socially beneficial research projects.
Beyond its charitable mission, this production showcases the complete collaboration of over 100 third-year medical students who have handled every creative element—directing, scriptwriting, composing, set design, lighting, sound, and more—despite lacking prior experience. Though none began with specialist knowledge, they have undertaken every step of production with intention to deliver a worthwhile performance.
The project fosters unity and teamwork among the cohort, encouraging creative problem-solving and demonstrating that people can always learn new skills. Students view theatre production as a challenge and learning experience applicable to their future medical careers.
Rama Drama is therefore more than theatre—it is a collective endeavour that aims to inspire audiences with the message that dedication, patience, and thoughtful planning enable anyone to attempt something entirely new. The 19th edition is coming soon.
