Rangsit Mayor Explains Slow Flood Recession Due to Canal Inflow
The Rangsit mayor said water is receding slowly because the Rangsit Prayurasak Canal must take in water from many surrounding areas. He warned residents to remain alert and not yet move belongings down from higher ground. Although some areas have begun to dry, the overall flood situation remains abnormal and people should monitor weather forecasts and incoming water flows.
The Rangsit mayor explained that the slow drop in water levels in the Rangsit canal is due to the Rangsit Prayurasak Canal having to accommodate massive inflows from numerous communities, not only within the municipality but also from neighboring areas. He said the local authority is coordinating with the Irrigation Department to run pumps continuously, and the strong, steady flow in the canal can be seen. Nevertheless, the main reason for the sluggish recession is the sheer volume of water converging in the canal before draining via the Chulalongkorn sluice gate into the canal mouth and out into the Chao Phraya River. Although many parts of Rangsit have started to dry and usable space has been restored in several spots, the overall situation has not yet returned to normal. He advised riverside communities and nearby residents to keep monitoring the weather and expected additional inflows, and to avoid moving belongings down from elevated locations until conditions improve.
