Thai Baht Seen Trading 33.15‑33.85 Amid Fed, Mideast Tension
Thai banks SCB and Krung Thai forecast the baht will trade between 33.15 and 33.85 baht per dollar this week, citing volatility from Federal Reserve policy expectations, Middle East tensions and gold prices. The baht opened slightly stronger at 33.51 but remains exposed to two‑way moves as markets watch US inflation data and geopolitical developments. Traders are also monitoring oil price swings after Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and temporary shifts in US sanctions on Russian diesel.
SCB’s Financial Markets unit projected the baht to trade in a 33.35‑33.65 band for October 12, 2026, after it strengthened late last week following a rise in gold prices, while financial markets remained uncertain due to Middle East conflict and energy price trends. Krung Thai Bank’s Krungthai GLOBAL MARKETS strategist Poon Phanichpipul said the baht opened at 33.51 per dollar, a slight gain from the prior week’s close of 33.53, and has been moving in a narrow 33.50‑33.58 range since Friday night with no clear direction. The baht’s modest strength was linked to a weaker dollar and a rebound in gold after US President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine had reached an energy‑related cease‑fire, though details remain unclear. The United States also temporarily lifted export sanctions on Russian diesel after agreeing to let Russia supply diesel to the US and world markets, aiming to curb rising diesel prices. However, crude oil climbed after Houthi attacks on Riyadh’s capital caused casualties and raised fears of escalation in Saudi Arabia, while the US consumer confidence index slipped to 44.7 amid higher oil prices. Analysts will watch September US CPI and PPI reports for clues on inflation and future Fed policy; markets currently expect one more rate hike this year. If CPI does not show broad‑based inflation, expectations for an October Fed hike could ease, potentially supporting the baht if the dollar weakens and gold rises, though ongoing Middle East uncertainty and European politics could keep the dollar buoyed and markets volatile. For the next 24 hours, Krung Thai Bank sees the baht in a 33.40‑33.60 range, and the weekly outlook remains 33.15‑33.85, with key support at 33.50 and further support near 33.20‑33.30.
