The Thai Meteorological Department issued its fifth heavy rain alert on September 23, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand from September 23-27, 2026. The northeast lower region and eastern Thailand will be affected first, with other regions following. A strengthening low-pressure system near central Vietnam will move into the lower northeast, eastern, and central regions and Bangkok, along with an intensifying southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
Authorities urge residents to exercise caution against severe rainfall and accumulated precipitation that could trigger flash floods and flashy runoff, particularly in hilly areas, near water channels, and in low-lying zones. Travel through areas prone to repeated flooding should be avoided, especially low depressions where water may pool rapidly. Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are expected to strengthen, with 2-3 meter waves in the upper gulf and upper Andaman, and over 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the upper gulf and upper Andaman should remain ashore until September 27.
Residents are advised to plan activities and travel carefully during this period. Affected provinces include Saraburi, Chachoengsao, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat in the east; Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, and Surin in the northeast; and multiple provinces including Bangkok, Phetchaburi, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Phuket, Phang Nga, and Ranong in the south.
