Singer Farida Hai Thongkham posted a hospital admission video on August 16, captioning it: "It's 1:37 PM and I'm still dizzy and struggling to breathe. When I get better, I'll come back and chat with everyone soon." In the video, Farida described her symptoms: "I've been admitted again and I'm now in my third trimester. The symptoms are really scary. I woke up this morning, ate breakfast, then fell asleep again. But when I woke up the second time, my heart was racing, my body was shaking, I had a headache, dizziness, blurred vision, trouble breathing, and I was vomiting."

She continued: "I've been vomiting every day, every time I eat anything I throw up. Has anyone else experienced this, moms? This is my first pregnancy. Please comment. I don't know what's wrong with me right now." Experienced mothers on social media responded with various observations and well-wishes, including: "This is normal for late pregnancy. If you're not resting enough or sleeping poorly, you can get these symptoms. Accumulated stress can contribute too. Vomiting is normal. You need to rest and sleep more." Other comments suggested the symptoms resembled gestational toxemia, though Farida is now under medical care.

Hospital Investigates Nurse Abuse Claims After Patient Death
1d ago Khaosod

On August 17, criticism erupted online and in the local community after a woman died following social media posts made from a hospital emergency room showing unusual marks on her body. The woman posted at noon that she had been waiting since 12 p.m. for examination at a hospital in Khon Kaen province, using strong language to express frustration about the delay. The post received approximately 4,200 reactions, 2,100 comments, and 1,900 shares at the time of a screenshot. Another post included photos showing her lying in a hospital bed appearing pale and exhausted, with dark and swollen lips, along with images of reddish and pink marks and bruises scattered across her palms, fingers, thighs, and lower torso. The quality and angle of the photos were insufficient to confirm whether the marks were raised or to identify clear blisters, open wounds, or pustules. A Facebook user identifying as the deceased woman's son commented expressing thanks and revealing that his mother should have been discharged that day or the next. However, around 4 a.m., staff called to report that his mother had lost consciousness in the bathroom while using the facilities, struck her head on the floor, and was found to have bleeding in her brain. The son questioned why family members did not accompany his mother to the bathroom, why staff did not notice her getting out of bed, and why she was left alone. He noted that visiting hours ended between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., and questioned whether nursing staff were responsible for patient care after that time. The son stated that he, his father, and relatives were in shock and unable to ask detailed questions at the time, uncertain about the next steps.

Watchdog Thailand sues suspect who kills neighbour’s dog by forcing it to drink alcoholLegacyWatchdog Thailand Foundation is taking a legal action against a suspect who allegedly killed a pet dog of a neighbour in Nakhon Sawan province by forcing liquor into its mouth. The foundation set out the case in a Facebook post yesterday, August 16. The male German Shepherd dog, called Peter, lived in Nong Mai Tai subdistrict, Mae Wong district of Nakhon Sawan. The owner also shared a video of Peter on his Facebook on August 14 and informed his followers about its death. The owner accused his neighbour of pouring liquor into Peter’s mouth. Peter became seriously ill and was rushed to an animal hospital. Unfortunately, the vets could not save him. Photo via TikTok/ @rut.4233 According to the foundation, the owner demanded 30,000 baht in compensation by the end of the month. In return, he agreed not to report the incident to the police. However, the foundation stated that this private settlement does not close the matter. Watchdog pointed out that animal cruelty is a criminal offence in Thailand. Paying compensation does not end criminal liability, nor does an owner deciding not to press charges. Photo via TikTok/ @rut.4233 The foundation is insisting on continuing with legal proceedings against the suspect who allegedly killed Peter. It revealed that it had contacted the superintendent of Mae Wong Police Station, who is supervising the case, to follow up on developments in the investigation and questioning of those involved. According to the foundation, fatally abusing an animal could result in a prison sentence of up to two years, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both. As of now, the suspect’s identity has not been made public. No one has been charged and the accusation has not been tested in court.

Woman Dies After Online Backlash Over Hospital Wait

A woman who posted complaints about emergency room wait times at a Khon Kaen hospital died after falling in a bathroom, sparking backlash against medical staff who had mocked her online.

Woman Dies After Online Backlash Over Hospital Wait
1d ago Khaosod

A woman admitted to the emergency room of a hospital in Khon Kaen province around noon with allergies and a rash faced a long treatment queue and posted on Facebook saying, "I've been here since noon—if you're not going to examine me, just let me go home and die." Another page shared her post with a mocking comment: "You came at noon, what do you expect?" Medical professionals from multiple facilities then commented, with some using harsh and derisive language that amounted to telling the patient to go away and die. This sparked widespread online criticism questioning the appropriateness of medical staff's language toward patients.

The woman's son later announced her death, explaining that she was expected to be discharged that day or the next, but around 4 a.m. he received a call saying his mother had lost consciousness in a hospital bathroom and struck her head, causing severe brain bleeding. The son raised questions about the incident: why his mother entered the bathroom alone after visiting hours ended, why it took so long to notify the family after she lost consciousness, and why doctors initially planned surgery but ultimately did not proceed. Hospital staff explained that intervention came too late due to extensive bleeding in the brain.

After news of her death spread, online criticism intensified against the medical staff who had commented on the original post. Several nurses' Facebook profiles were locked or comments deleted. One nurse who commented clarified that she did not intend to insult the patient but responded to accusations that the hospital prioritized wealthy patients. She said she acted out of anger at comments questioning emergency triage procedures, emphasized that all patients receive equal care, acknowledged that commenting on the deceased's post was inappropriate, and apologized to the family and others affected, vowing not to engage in public comments or share others' posts again.

Defence Ministry Readies Anti-Drone System Against Cambodian Incursions

On August 17 at the Athenee Hotel on Wireless Road, Defence Ministry spokesman Pol. Lt. Col. Surasan Kongsiri addressed reports of Cambodian citizens preparing to return home to Nong Chan in Sarabury province, stating the matter required verification before confirmation. He affirmed that bilateral mechanisms exist to resolve the Thailand-Cambodia border dispute, noting that all countries have voiced support for direct Thai-Cambodian dialogue without foreign interference. The ministry emphasized that the Joint Border Committee and the General Border Committee mechanism stand ready, pending bilateral talks. Regarding Cambodian drone operations along the border, Kongsiri stated that Thailand uses formal protest procedures through border forces and maintains operational anti-drone systems with private sector support, though technical details were withheld. He assured the public that Thailand has anti-drone countermeasures in place and conducts continuous surveillance of Cambodian drone activities. Addressing the stalled bilateral negotiation process and JBC meetings, Kongsiri noted that secretariat-level coordination continues but both sides must comply with conditions set in the Joint Statement signed on December 27, 2024. Deputy Prime Minister Siwarak Puangkitgatuk indicated that Cambodia has not demonstrated readiness and continues provocations, citing Cambodia's use of drones and anti-drone systems as violations of the Joint Statement. He stressed that continued violations undermine the credibility of negotiations. When asked whether the unfavorable negotiating atmosphere would affect border conditions, Kongsiri confirmed that unit-level discussions continue between border forces, with some relationships recovering at the Regional Border Committee level, such as between the Buriram and Surin commands. He maintained that all matters should ultimately be resolved through negotiation.

Online Seller Streams From Hospital Bed Despite Serious Illness

Social media seller "High Society Sweetie" streamed product sales from her hospital bed while recovering from stress-induced collapse, prioritizing her family business and three children's support over her health despite serious illness.

Online Seller Streams From Hospital Bed Despite Serious Illness
1d ago Khaosod

A social media personality known as "High Society Sweetie" recently faced family drama that sparked intense online scrutiny, giving her no time to recover. Her body soon gave warning signs and she collapsed for two days from accumulated stress. Yet she forced herself to resume live broadcasts to continue her family business, which she built to support her three children. The image from her hospital recovery room is striking: what was once a familiar home shopping broadcast has now become a hospital patient room, complete with an IV drip and medical equipment at her side. Despite needing rest, she continues to sit and present products, discussing and selling with full energy, as if refusing to let illness stop her duties and income. This clearly reflects the mother's motto: "I can be sick, but I won't surrender." Her fans have sent overwhelming encouragement, moved by her struggle while seriously ill, leaving supportive comments like "Take care of your health," "Rest and recover soon," and "Even sick, you're still prettier than us"—kind words that bring her smiles. The burden she carries is heavy, arriving all at once: family problems, social media backlash, financial pressure, and serious health decline. Insiders say what she bears behind the scenes is far heavier than outsiders can imagine. No matter how much her heart fights for her children, health is what matters most. For now, everyone can only send encouragement, hoping she gets through this storm, recovers quickly, and learns to care for herself as much as she cares for her family.

On August 17, Professor Thongthong Chantharangsu, chairman of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University Council and head of the National Buddhist Protection Committee, met with Khon Kaen Governor Kachaikit Rukphanichakun to submit a request for security protection of the clergy and to expedite the change of land title ownership at Wat Pa Adulyaram in Muang District, Khon Kaen. The dispute arose after heirs of the original landowner, from whom Hiang Pimsat made a donation to the temple, are now claiming ownership rights. The governor stated that Khon Kaen Province has taken the matter seriously and assigned relevant units to investigate the facts. He asked the public to refrain from commentary and noted that the temple has submitted evidence to the Khon Kaen Land Office, which is currently reviewing the case and will proceed according to legal procedures. Any objections will follow proper legal channels.

Professor Thongthong said he visited Nong Waeng Royal Monastery to meet the Khon Kaen Provincial Buddhist Committee and inquire about the situation, noting that local religious officials are overseeing the matter. His meeting with the governor was to express gratitude for the province's support and protection of the temple and Venerable Phra Kru Adulasat Nidet, the abbot. The professor emphasized that the request for security concerns protecting the temple grounds from any violent incidents. The land title transfer from Hiang to Wat Pa Adulyaram is in the hands of the Khon Kaen Land Office, where the governor will authorize and expedite the process according to Department of Lands regulations.

Professor Thongthong stated he and the National Buddhist Office will continue to monitor the temple's situation and work with the provincial Buddhist committee. He expressed no concern about the heir's reclaim, as these matters fall under the jurisdiction of the land office to handle through legal procedures.

Thailand Should Remain Neutral on AI, Deputy PM Says

Deputy PM Yossanan Wongsuwan says Thailand should remain neutral in the U.S.-China AI competition, instead focusing on building its own technological foundations through partnerships with France, Japan, and South Korea.

Thailand Should Remain Neutral on AI, Deputy PM Says
1d ago Khaosod

At a briefing on August 17 at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Higher Education Minister Yossanan Wongsuwan addressed the U.S. plan to ask allied nations to take sides in the artificial intelligence competition with China. He noted that AI encompasses multiple sectors, including semiconductors, which have been discussed among allied nations. Following recent AI discussions in China at the World Internet Conference, Thailand may need to participate but must carefully consider its approach. For maximum advantage, Yossanan argued, Thailand must position itself as a neutral nation and will consult with Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkhao on how to navigate this geopolitical challenge.

When asked whether taking sides is necessary, Yossanan said Thailand must first strengthen its own technological and scientific foundations, which he has been developing over the past two to three months through discussions with France, Japan, and South Korea. He emphasized that Thailand should not focus on choosing sides but rather on building core capabilities that provide independence. Even if rejected in some areas, he said, a strong foundation allows the country to function autonomously.

Yossanan stressed that artificial intelligence relies on underlying infrastructure including data, cybersecurity, and hardware. With a robust domestic database, Thailand can make informed decisions about which AI partnerships serve its interests. He called for serious investment in foundational technologies, not just AI alone, and said both government and private sector participation through the Public-Private Sector Committee for Economic Reform is essential. The strategy, he concluded, should prioritize Thailand's own strengths and capabilities rather than fear-driven alignment with any major power.
