King Maha Chakri Maharaj and Queen Suthida opened the new 14-story Tasomabophit Building at a Royal Thai Navy hospital in Bangkok on August 16, expanding medical services with 228 patient beds for military personnel and the public.
On 16 August 2025, King Maha Chakri Maharaj and Queen Suthida presided over the official opening of the Tasomabophit Building and viewed the Navy Medical Care exhibition held beneath the Tasomabophit Building at Somdet Phra Piniklao Hospital, Royal Thai Navy Medical Department, in Thon Buri, Bangkok. The King and Queen lit incense and flowers in homage to the Triple Gem, observed precepts, and pressed an electronic button to unveil the nameplate of the Tasomabophit Building—a royal name given to honor His Majesty King Maha Chakri Maharaj, the Chakri Dynasty Founder and King of the Tenth Reign. The building was constructed to provide expanded medical services for military personnel and the public amid rising demand for healthcare. The hospital undertook this major infrastructure development project to increase patient capacity and elevate treatment standards. The 14-story inpatient building spans over 20,300 square meters and provides comprehensive medical services with a total of 228 patient beds, including 184 general-care beds and 44 critical and semi-critical care beds. The facility is systematically designed to specialize in the care of internal medicine patients and complex medical conditions, supported by an intelligent medical support system to ensure all patients receive the highest standard of safe and efficient care.
The King and Queen then participated in a private ceremony presenting requisites to Buddhist monks, distributed gifts of remembrance to benefactors, and received commemorative offerings. Their Majesties paid respects before the altar and took their leave.
Afterward, Their Majesties proceeded to the Tasomabophit Building to view the Navy Medical Care exhibition beneath the Tasomabophit Building, which was organized to publicize the royal grace and present major achievements through six exhibition zones. Zone 1, The Stream of Royal Compassion, illustrates the boundless royal benevolence the King has extended to all subjects. The King granted 80 million baht to Somdet Phra Piniklao Hospital and Somdet Phra Nang Chao Sirikit Hospital, Royal Thai Navy Medical Department, to support the procurement of modern medical equipment and instruments, as well as ongoing assistance in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Zone 2, Tasomabophit: A Royal Name, recounts the background of the 14-story Tasomabophit inpatient building, a royally bestowed name reflecting the King's concern to elevate medical services, reduce overcrowding, and increase access to internationally standard healthcare. Zone 3, Strategic Medicine, showcases emergency rescue operations, field medical procedures, medical evacuation, and naval medical innovations. Zone 4, the Somdet Phra Piniklao Hospital Eye Center, presents excellence in laser eye-correction surgery technology.
