Six Provinces Face Landslide And Flooding Risk
Authorities warn of landslide and flooding risks across six northern and eastern provinces through September 3 as heavy monsoon rains persist, with residents urged to avoid flood-prone routes and hillside areas.
The Geological Disaster Operations Centre under the Department of Mineral Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has issued a warning for landslides and flash flooding on September 3, 2026. Heavy rainfall continues in high-risk landslide areas, with forecasts predicting conditions that could trigger slope failures, particularly in six provinces: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Tak, Chanthaburi, and Trat.
The Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy rain in parts of the northern, northeastern, eastern, and southern regions over the next 24 hours. A monsoon trough is moving across the upper north and northern Laos, while tropical storm Saudel is developing over the northern South China Sea. The southwest monsoon is moderately strong over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Residents in affected areas are urged to be alert to risks from heavy and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and flash flooding, especially on hillsides near water channels and in low-lying areas. Travel through repeatedly flood-prone routes should be avoided, particularly in low-lying areas where sudden flooding is possible. Local volunteers in at-risk areas are asked to closely monitor geological hazards and prepare for potential disasters. Authorities will inspect affected areas immediately if incidents occur to provide guidance and reassurance to residents.
