Social Security Ready for Board Election September 27
Thailand's Social Security Office confirmed it is ready to hold board elections on September 27, with expanded polling stations and digital systems in place to serve 12 million eligible voters across the country.
The Social Security Office expressed confidence in its readiness to conduct elections for the Social Security Board on September 27. Secretary-General Kanchana Pulgaew of the Social Security Office revealed details about the election during an announcement on September 3, noting that the office is marking 36 years of progress in expanding benefits and protections for members. Over time, the system has evolved from remedial-focused services to more preventive measures, with increased use of digital applications and e-Service platforms to reduce corruption and enhance transparency.
Kanchana emphasized that coverage has expanded significantly under Sections 33, 39, and 40, protecting members from employment through illness, childbirth, and retirement. Regarding the upcoming election, she confirmed that candidate and voter lists have been published, allowing members and employers to verify their eligibility. Voters can register their voting rights on September 27, 2026.
When asked about readiness given the change from automatic registration to a new system covering 12 million eligible voters, Kanchana assured that all preparations are complete, including venue arrangements, voter eligibility verification, and ballot production. At least one polling station per district has been established to ensure sufficient capacity. The office has coordinated with other agencies to ensure comprehensive and transparent voting.
The number of polling stations has increased significantly from 2,000 to 5,233 units, requiring an increase in staffing to approximately 40,000 personnel across polling locations. Voters can now verify their polling location through the e-Self Service system and the SSO Plus application. Employers and members without access to these systems can check information via the Social Security Office website at www.sso.go.th or visit any Social Security Office branch nationwide. Anyone not appearing on voter lists should contact the election coordination center for clarification.
