Disaster Agency Warns 54 Provinces of Flash Floods Through Sept 7

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has alerted 54 provinces in the North, Northeast, Central Region, and Bangkok to prepare for flash floods, runoff flooding, mudslides, and waterlogging between September 4-7. Department director Theerapat Kutchamat said on September 3 that the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Operations Center has been tracking weather conditions and risk factors. The Meteorology Department issued a warning that heavy to very heavy rain will affect upper Thailand from September 4-7, particularly in the North and upper Northeast, due to a monsoon trough combined with a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
At-risk areas include 17 northern provinces: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampoon, Lamphun, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaengphet, Phichit, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, and Uthai Thani. The Northeast has 20 at-risk provinces: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. The Central Region's 17 provinces include Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sa Kaew, Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, Trat, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Samut Prakan, and Bangkok.
The department has coordinated with all 54 provinces and regional disaster prevention centers in at-risk areas to prepare for increased rainfall and heavy precipitation that may cause flooding. Officials have been instructed to monitor weather, rainfall, and water conditions closely, deploy emergency response teams with machinery, and establish temporary shelters for evacuees. Natural attractions such as waterfalls and caves in risky areas must be closed to the public. The public is urged to follow weather updates and government warnings through the Thai Disaster Alert application, call the emergency line 1784, or contact the Line account "Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Report 1784" for assistance 24 hours a day.
