Student Punched After Refusing Drink Request From Aggressive Man
A 24-year-old student in Udon Thani was punched twice by an aggressive man who demanded his water glass after the student refused; police arrested the 35-year-old suspect, who has a history of troublemaking in the neighborhood.
On September 23, the Udon Thani Emergency Response Center 191 received a report of assault on Pohijinda 5 Road in Nong Bua Subdistrict, Muang District, Udon Thani Province. Police arrived to find the victim, Kritsana (known as Phet), a 24-year-old student, still in shock. Phet explained that he was resting at the location to wait for class when he noticed a stranger yelling and cursing at motorcyclists from a distance. The man then approached Phet with aggressive behavior and crude language, demanding the insulated water glass Phet was holding. When Phet refused because the glass contained water, the man walked away briefly before returning, cursing again, and punching Phet twice in the face. The attacker then grabbed the glass and fled home.
Phet stated that although his injuries were not severe, he was concerned about public safety, particularly for women passing through the area, due to the man's aggressive and threatening behavior. He filed a complaint to help police take legal action and prevent similar incidents.
Police tracked down Tiwa (known as M), 35, and detained him after recovering the water glass matching the victim's description. During questioning, Tiwa spoke confusedly and gave unclear information about the incident. When pressed by reporters about his motive, Tiwa cried and claimed he did not start the confrontation, blaming it on friends bullying him. A reporter cautioned him to stay composed, accept responsibility, and be a man about his actions.
Local residents reported that Tiwa has a history of troublemaking, including burning down his own home, leaving a barbershop without paying, and making loud, disruptive noise in the neighborhood. Police initially charged Tiwa with robbery and are pursuing further legal proceedings. The student's college reportedly plans to send a legal team to support the victim and follow the case.
