Man Arrested for Punching Student, Stealing Tumbler
A 35-year-old man was arrested in Udon Thani after punching a student and stealing his tumbler on Tuesday evening; police recovered the item and charged him with robbery.
A student in Udon Thani reported being punched and robbed of an insulated tumbler while waiting to enter class on Tuesday evening. Police responded to Pho Chinda 5 Road in Nong Bua, Mueang Udon Thani, after the 24-year-old victim reported the attack by an unknown man.
The student said he was sitting roadside waiting for class when he noticed the man shouting and swearing at motorcyclists. The suspect approached him, spoke aggressively, and demanded the tumbler. When the student refused because there was still water inside, the man walked away briefly, then returned and punched him twice in the face before taking the tumbler and leaving.
Although not seriously injured, the student expressed concern for the safety of others in the area, particularly women, citing the man's aggressive behaviour. He filed a police complaint.
Police later detained a 35-year-old man outside his home and recovered a tumbler matching the student's description. The suspect provided confused and unclear information during questioning and was taken to Mueang Udon Thani Police Station. He has been initially charged with robbery. The college is reportedly preparing to send lawyers to assist the student and follow the case.
Neighbours have also alleged the man previously caused disturbances in the area, including shouting in public, though police said those claims are still being verified.
