Sudarat Accuses Power-Holders of Escaping Justice While Public Pays
Former politician Sudarat Keyuraphan says corruption flourishes when powerful figures control oversight mechanisms, leaving ordinary citizens to pay the price while high-level officials escape accountability.
Sudarat Keyuraphan posted on Facebook on September 16, stating that when the system of checks and balances is dominated by those in power, corrupt officials escape every case because the people being investigated are the ones who choose their own investigators. When oversight mechanisms are under the control of powerful figures, those who cheat do not fear scrutiny, and corruption flourishes. When corruption spreads, the price is paid not by politicians, civil servants, or anti-corruption officials, but by the entire nation. She highlighted clear examples: local election fraud involving tens of billions of baht, yet only low-level figures are arrested while powerful beneficiaries remain free. She also referenced the fuel oil stockpiling scandal, in which officials plundered over 50,000 million baht from the public, with those responsible never held accountable. Keyuraphan urged citizens not to submit to oligarchic power, warning that doing so would be equivalent to handing down a corrupt, decaying country to future generations.
