Taiwan Celebrates 115th National Day in Bangkok Amid Strong Ties
Taiwan marked its 115th National Day at a Bangkok gala attended by over 1,000 dignitaries, highlighting strong Taiwan‑Thailand ties. Representative Peter Lan stressed Taiwan’s technological prowess, noting it produces over 90 % of the world’s advanced chips and AI servers, and cited growing trade, investment, and people‑to‑people links between the two sides.
Lan said Taiwan’s steadfast progress with Thailand is opening a new chapter in history. He emphasized that Taiwan stands out for its democracy, credibility, and technology, which have made it a trusted global technology partner – over 90 % of the world’s advanced chips and AI servers are made in Taiwan. The island’s strengths in semiconductors, information and communications technology, and artificial intelligence prove its indispensable role in the global tech supply chain. In the first half of 2026, Taiwan’s economy grew more than 14 %, the highest in 39 years; its stock market rose to fourth place worldwide; and GDP per capita is projected to exceed $45,000, moving toward President Lai Ching‑te’s vision of a “sun‑never‑sets” economy. Regarding Taiwan‑Thailand ties, Lan cited the “1‑6” figures: Taiwan is the top destination for Thai overseas workers; two Taiwanese firms are in Thailand’s SET50; Taiwan is Thailand’s third‑largest import source; its fourth‑largest trading partner; the fifth‑most popular destination for Taiwanese tourists; and the sixth‑largest source of foreign direct investment in Thailand. He said these numbers demonstrate deep economic, industrial, and people‑to‑people bonds, complementing Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy and integrated diplomacy, and that with proper communication channels cooperation can be limitless. Lan concluded that the office has launched a “Taiwan‑Thailand Technology Talent Service Platform” and that, with expanded visa‑exemption measures this year, Taiwan is ready to deepen economic and cultural ties. He thanked the guests, raised a toast with the Vatican and Guatemalan ambassadors to Thailand and leaders of the overseas Chinese community, wishing Taiwan prosperity, a happy National Day, and enduring friendship.
