Jakarta, 4 August 2026 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) today advanced Thailand–Indonesia tourism cooperation through separate Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Indonesia-based TransNusa Airlines and Southeast Asian travel platform Traveloka at Fairmont Jakarta. The high-level signing was witnessed by Thailand’s Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul and H.E. Mr. Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and Energy and Chairman of the Advisory Board at KADIN Indonesia.

Signed by Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor; Datuk Bernard Francis, Aviation Group Chief Executive Officer of TransNusa Airlines; and Mr. Albert, Co-founder of Traveloka, the agreements aim to expand air connectivity, strengthen digital marketing and boost Indonesian arrivals across Thailand, while supporting closer tourism and business cooperation between the two countries and stronger connectivity within ASEAN.

Ms. Thapanee said, “Indonesia is an important ASEAN market for Thailand, supported by close cultural ties, convenient travel and growing demand for diverse tourism experiences. These partnerships advance TAT’s Partnership 360 strategy by combining air access, digital reach and market insight to grow Indonesian travel to Thailand. They also support the global ‘Healing is the New Luxury’ campaign by connecting travellers with meaningful experiences across established and emerging destinations, while extending tourism benefits to communities and the wider economy.”

Through the agreement with TransNusa Airlines, TAT will focus on tourism promotion, travel product development and stronger air links between Indonesia and Thailand. Activities will support the “Feel All the Feelings – Visit Thailand, Feel Every Emotion” campaign through tourism fairs, promotional campaigns, digital content, workshops and familiarisation trips, alongside efforts to strengthen the Jakarta–Bangkok and Bali–Phuket routes.

The Traveloka partnership will use the platform’s digital reach, distribution capabilities and market intelligence to promote destinations and tourism experiences across Thailand. It will also support TAT’s Sustainable Tourism Goals by raising awareness of responsible travel, sharing consumer insights, planning campaigns, and communicating relevant tourism policies, entry requirements, and safety measures, subject to appropriate data privacy and security safeguards.

Together, the agreements connect improved air access with targeted digital promotion and market intelligence, supporting greater visitor flows and wider tourism benefits across Thailand.

From 1 January to 31 July 2026, Thailand welcomed 376,337 Indonesian visitors, who stayed for an average of six nights. Their leading interests include Thai cuisine, historical sites, community-based tourism, wellness experiences and beaches. TAT aims to attract 890,000 Indonesian visitors in 2026.

Doctor Lists Five Colon Cancer Warning Signs Beyond Stomach Pain
4 Aug Khaosod

Dr. Jetsada Bunyavongvirooj, deputy director of Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, has posted five warning signs of colon cancer that people should not ignore, noting that early-stage colon cancer does not necessarily cause abdominal pain. While many people experience common digestive issues like bloating, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome, it is important to distinguish between minor digestive complaints and serious warning signs that warrant medical evaluation.

The five warning signs are: (1) A clear change in bowel habits, such as a shift from daily bowel movements to constipation lasting several days or alternating between loose stools and constipation, or a persistent feeling of incomplete evacuation; (2) Blood in stool or abnormally dark stools—while people often assume bright red blood indicates hemorrhoids, bleeding from the colon or rectum can also occur, and sometimes blood is present in amounts too small to see without testing; (3) Anemia, fatigue, or easy tiring even without visible blood loss, as some colon cancers can cause slow, chronic bleeding undetectable to the naked eye; (4) Unintentional weight loss despite maintaining the same diet and activity level, which can accompany loss of appetite and fatigue; and (5) Changes in existing abdominal pain or bloating patterns, such as increased frequency or severity of symptoms. Dr. Jetsada emphasizes that while not all these symptoms indicate cancer, persistent or multiple simultaneous symptoms warrant investigation rather than self-diagnosis as simple digestive trouble.

Road Project Stalls as Contract Deadline Looms in Two Months

A 4.99 million baht road project in Khao Wang District faces near-certain failure with only two months left before its September deadline, as no construction work has begun despite a 120-day timeline that started in May.

Road Project Stalls as Contract Deadline Looms in Two Months
4 Aug Khaosod

On August 4, Prakop Mangkang, director of the Office of the Ombudsman in Yasothon Province, and his team inspected the reinforced concrete road construction project running from Ban Mak Mai to Ban Phon Muang in Khao Wang District. The project, worth 4,989,900 baht, calls for a 6-meter-wide, 1,120-meter-long road with 0.15-meter thickness, with a 120-day timeline from May 29 to September 25, 2025. However, inspectors found no construction work had begun on site, with only two months (approximately 60 days) remaining—creating a high risk of project failure. Prakop warned that rushed construction near deadlines often leads to compromised quality standards, such as inadequate soil compaction and insufficient concrete curing time, causing rapid pavement deterioration after opening. The Ombudsman's office recommended that the provincial organization accelerate planning review, enforce strict penalty clauses if deadlines are missed, and involve local residents as public monitors. The office pledged to closely monitor the project's progress to ensure the nearly 5 million baht in taxpayer funds produces a durable, standard-compliant road that genuinely benefits residents of Khao Wang District.

Personal Data Breach From Government Database Investigated
4 Aug Khaosod

On August 4, 2025, the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) launched an urgent investigation into the unauthorized release of personal information and identification card photographs of citizens, including the Prime Minister, cabinet ministers, and senior executives through online channels. The committee is coordinating with relevant authorities to act against those who published the data, database custodians, and criminal syndicates engaged in illegal data trafficking and unauthorized access routes.

PDPC Secretary-General Pol. Col. Surpong Plaengkham revealed that technology experts identified personal data and ID card photos from government databases being disseminated online, affecting multiple groups ranging from ordinary citizens to the Prime Minister, ministers, and top officials. The committee has immediately begun coordinating and fact-checking with all relevant agencies.

"Our preliminary investigation shows that this case involves illegally created data or links and unauthorized access to specially protected computer data through criminal networks, which constitutes a violation under the Computer Crime Act, Section 7. This is not merely a general data leak," the PDPC Secretary-General stated. "We have issued comprehensive measures to protect and safeguard citizens' personal data across all dimensions."

The enforcement measures are divided into three categories: downstream action against those posting or disseminating the data without authorization, which violates the Computer Crime Act Section 7; upstream action involving the agencies maintaining the data, specifically the Department of Land Transport and Department of Interior, to audit and remediate their systems and report the breach; and action against criminal networks trafficking in personal data and unauthorized access routes. The PDPC is coordinating with the Digital Economy and Society Ministry and other agencies to pursue criminal prosecutions. Citizens and social media users are warned not to test, forward, or republish the leaked data or access links, as doing so may compound victims' harm and expose participants to legal liability.

Missing Woman Found Safe With Homeless Group in Pattaya
4 Aug Khaosod

Ms. Buluan Slajaneth, 36, has been found safe after going missing, having been located at Jomtien Beach living with a homeless group. Her younger brother spotted her and they embraced with tears of joy after being separated for a long time.

At 3 p.m. on August 4, 2026, Kan Jompluang, accompanied by Pol. Lt. Col. Anek Saratongai (Mueang Pattaya Police Chief) and other officers, launched a search operation in Jomtien Soi 3 along Jomtien Beach in Pattaya, Chonburi. They had received leads that the woman had been spotted in the area days earlier. Officers conducted foot patrols and interviewed residents, who reported seeing her walking through the soi in normal condition, which gave the search team hope.

Shortly after beginning their search, they found Ms. Buluan staying with three homeless individuals. Upon seeing her brother's face, she ran to embrace him, and both wept with joy after their long separation.

Ms. Buluan explained that her motorcycle was stolen and her mobile phone was lost, leaving her unable to contact anyone. She could not remember her family members' phone numbers, had no money, and did not know where to go. She therefore stayed with friends and homeless groups, making a living by collecting and selling bottles and gathering shellfish from the sea for food. She thanked her brother for his unwavering search efforts that led to their reunion.

Kan Jompluang expressed great satisfaction that the search was successful and the missing person was alive. He thanked officers from Bang Lamung and Mueang Pattaya police stations for their coordinated efforts in locating her. The woman will now be taken home for medical treatment and recovery.

Thailand Halts Worker Deployments to Iran and Iraq
4 Aug Khaosod

The Department of Employment has suspended sending workers to Iran and Iraq as Middle Eastern tensions intensify. Approximately 61,000 Thai workers are currently spread across the region in agriculture, construction, industry, and service sectors. Department Inspector Sonthaya Kalasri said the agency is monitoring security conditions closely and will restrict deployments only to Iran and Iraq for now, while allowing travel to safer areas if risks subside.

Sonthaya stated that Thai workers in at-risk areas must follow evacuation orders from host countries and the Thai government. The Foreign Ministry is the lead agency in coordinating emergency assistance, identifying safe zones, and maintaining communication channels to locate and help Thai nationals. Should conflict escalate, diplomatic missions will implement contingency measures, though the government cannot guarantee safety if war breaks out. Thai workers are reminded to obey local government warnings and cooperate strictly with authorities for their protection.

Police arrested suspects Get and Tae on August 4, 2025, after they damaged a Mercedes-Benz and spat on it following a traffic dispute in Nakhon Pathom Province. The two men, riding separate motorcycles with a female passenger on one bike, engaged in a heated argument with the car owner at a red light, then exited their bikes to strike and kick the vehicle, breaking its side mirror. When questioned, both confessed to acting in anger following the confrontation.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted fault and displayed a markedly different demeanor than during the incident—calm, reasonable, and cooperative with investigators. Get issued a public apology, acknowledging his actions and accepting responsibility for damage costs estimated at 300,000 to 400,000 baht. He stated the female passenger was a close younger friend, not a romantic partner, and requested people stop sharing his image on social media. Eight-year-old racing debutant 'McLaren' impressed with two heat wins at Thailand's Toyota Junior Kart Championship but crashed out in the final round, while his sister 'Ferrari' podiumed in a higher category at Pattaya's Bira Circuit.

Young Siblings 'Ferrari' and 'McLaren' Make Racing Debut
4 Aug Khaosod

Phimonyaphatt Loithuayawit, an eight-year-old racing debutant nicknamed 'McLaren,' competed in the True Visions–Toyota Junior Kart Championship 2026 Round 1 at Bira International Circuit in Pattaya in late July. The son of celebrated race driver Tanuphatt Loithuayawit entered the CADET B category (8–9 years) and qualified in 10th place. In Heat 1, he charged from 10th to first place in his age group and second overall; he repeated the feat in Heat 2.

However, the final heat proved challenging. Starting from pole position, 'McLaren' was caught off guard when the starting light dropped and fell to eighth place. As he recovered and attempted to overtake in a three-car scuffle, a competitor from the left suddenly cut into his line. The collision lifted both karts off the track, forcing 'McLaren' to retire and drop from first to last place in the final standings.

His father acknowledged the disappointment but praised his son's resilience and effort across multiple heats. He noted that the experience taught valuable lessons in caution, focus, emotional control, and mental toughness. 'McLaren's' determination showed the heart of a true racer, he said.

The family's elder daughter, Phichanyachon Loithuayawit, nicknamed 'Ferrari,' also competed in the same championship and became the sole female driver to podium, finishing third in the SKT category (ages 10–11) and ninth overall. She advanced from winning the CADET B title last season to challenging over 30 professional-level drivers this year. The proud father emphasized that both siblings are growing together with support from their family, Ya Motorsport team, and TNP staff. The family plans to enter both 'Ferrari' and 'McLaren' in upcoming events, promising exceptional performances ahead.

Thai Military Refutes UN Report on Border Conflict

Thai Military Refutes UN Report on Border Conflict
4 Aug Khaosod

Thailand's military has responded to a UN special rapporteur's statement about the Thai-Cambodian border situation, insisting that Thailand did not initiate the conflict and accusing Cambodia of continuous border provocations. Army spokesperson Lieutenant General Winday Suwari issued a detailed rebuttal on August 4, clarifying facts about displaced persons and migrant workers, and calling on Cambodia to stop distorting information to damage Thailand's image.

The statement came after UN Special Rapporteur Tom Andrews concluded a visit to Cambodia between July 20-31 and released an end-of-mission report that mentioned Thailand in the context of the bilateral border situation. Thailand's military maintains that it was Cambodia that created the ongoing conflict through armed provocations and military incursions that violated Thai sovereignty and affected Thai civilians' lives and property.

According to the military, Thailand was forced to respond defensively under international principles, and both countries evacuated border residents to temporary shelters to protect them from combat. The military dismissed Cambodia's claim of 650,000 displaced persons as a distortion, stating this figure actually represents Cambodian citizens who voluntarily moved to temporary shelters. Thailand, the military noted, also evacuated nearly 500,000 of its own citizens, who have since returned home following a ceasefire on December 27, 2024.

The military stated that only approximately 4,690 Cambodian residents cannot return to their original homes—those from three areas that had been settled there before hostilities. The statement also addressed the issue of Cambodian nationals who illegally settled in Thai territory for over 40 years with Cambodian government support, noting that Thailand attempted to resolve the matter through bilateral mechanisms and Thai law but received no cooperation from Cambodia.

Regarding migrant workers, the military confirmed that approximately 900,000 Cambodian workers returned home voluntarily following an appeal from the Cambodian government, and emphasized that Thailand has consistently cared for Cambodian migrant workers. The military called on Cambodia to address its own problems responsibly rather than distort facts to harm Thailand's image, and urged UN mechanisms to present balanced information verified by both parties rather than relying on information from one side alone.

Typhoon Dolphin to Bring Heavy Rain to Thailand Aug 7-10
4 Aug Khaosod

On August 4, the Thai Meteorological Department reported on Typhoon Dolphin, the 13th typhoon of the western Pacific season. The storm is moving northwest toward Taiwan and poses no direct threat to Thailand, remaining at a considerable distance. From August 7-10, the typhoon may indirectly intensify the southwest monsoon covering Thailand, causing heavy rainfall especially in monsoon-facing areas. Current rainfall in northern Thailand is due to seasonal monsoon and monsoon trough influence, and residents should not be alarmed by rumors. Foreign travelers to Taiwan, southern Japanese islands, and eastern China are warned of heavy rain and strong winds in those areas during August 7-10, which could delay, cancel, or endanger flights. Travelers should check weather forecasts and airline status before departing. The public is advised to monitor updates and storm alerts from the Thai Meteorological Department closely.
