Woman Claims Lottery Ticket Vanished Before 6 Million Baht Prize Win

A woman claims a lottery vendor lost her pre-ordered ticket worth 6 million baht after it won first prize in Thailand's June 16 drawing, but conflicting accounts from two vendors have left the dispute unresolved.

Woman Claims Lottery Ticket Vanished Before 6 Million Baht Prize Win
30 Jul Khaosod

A woman from Prang Ku district, Sisaket province, claims she pre-ordered government lottery ticket number 287184 for the June 16 drawing but never received it from the vendor. She later learned that the ticket had won the first-prize jackpot worth 6 million baht, sparking widespread public controversy.

The woman, Yom, provided journalists with documentation and evidence including LINE message exchanges and contact history with lottery vendors. She explained that on June 15, the day before the drawing, she had called vendor Daeng to order a ticket ending in 184, but Daeng's stand did not have it. Daeng then said the number was available from another vendor named Jeen. However, after the drawing results were announced, conflicting accounts emerged: Jeen claimed she never kept the ticket, while Daeng insisted she had set it aside. On June 18, Daeng brought a different number (684) and claimed she couldn't find the original, eventually saying "I thought I sold it, but I found it today." Yom refused to accept the wrong number and did not pay.

Yom subsequently learned that one lottery ticket from the stand had won first prize with a village headman in the area, though the whereabouts of the second ticket remained unclear. She expressed suspicion based on her own investigation that the ticket may have been claimed the night of June 16, and noted that Daeng had recently purchased a car despite having previously appeared to be in poor financial condition. When journalists visited the Agricultural Bank branch in Prang Ku to speak with Jeen, the second vendor provided transaction records via LINE to assert her innocence. She stated she had no prior knowledge of Yom's order through Daeng and clarified that Yom typically contacted her directly. Jeen explained her standard practice was to photograph tickets for customer verification via LINE, which she said should have occurred if Yom had genuinely ordered through her. The conflicting accounts between the two vendors remain unresolved.

Police Bust Unlicensed Dental Clinic Operating Over 10 Years in Buriram
30 Jul Khaosod

On July 30, 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Jaruas Siriliang, commander of Muang Buriram Police Station, coordinated with consumer protection officers from the Buriram Provincial Health Office to raid and arrest suspects who illegally posed as dentists and operated an unlicensed dental clinic, creating public safety risks in the area.

Dr. Yutthana Suriya, the provincial health officer, explained that the operation was triggered by a public tip about a clinic in the Buriram Municipality area providing teeth whitening, cosmetic bracing, and dental treatment without proper licensing or professional credentials. During the raid, officers arrested three individuals caught actively treating patients inside the commercial building. Officers also seized dental equipment, medications, anesthetics, and non-standard cosmetic bracing devices. Such operations by unqualified practitioners using unsterilized equipment pose serious risks to patients, including bloodstream infections and hepatitis virus transmission.

A 19-year-old patient, identified as Ms. A, revealed she had found the clinic on social media seeking orthodontic treatment. She noticed the absence of standard dental X-rays and questioned staff, who claimed it was a new orthodontic innovation. Upon inspection of the X-ray room, she found only a bed with no X-ray machine, prompting her to alert authorities.

Suspect Kai (pseudonym), 28, confessed the clinic had operated for over 10 years, claiming to be awaiting a license from the provincial health office. He admitted he had no dental education and no dentistry credentials whatsoever.

Dr. Yutthana urged the public to verify proper medical facility licenses and credentials before seeking dental services, warning that unlicensed clinics risk serious infections such as hepatitis and permanent damage to oral structures. Authorities initially charged the suspects with operating a medical facility without qualified professionals and practicing dentistry without authorization, with cases forwarded for further legal prosecution.

Thai Stock Market Falls 26.36 Points as Delta Drags Index

Thailand's stock market fell 1.62% to 1,598.11 points on July 30, dragged down by a 7.37% plunge in Delta, the country's most-traded stock, amid global semiconductor weakness and Middle East tensions.

Thai Stock Market Falls 26.36 Points as Delta Drags Index
30 Jul Khaosod

Trinity Securities reported that the Thai stock market on July 30, 2025 closed at 1,598.11 points, down 26.36 points or 1.62% from the previous day, trading between 1,587.29 and 1,616.06 points with a total trading value of 112,047.42 billion baht. The market faced significant pressure from Delta, which fell 7.37% and is the highest trading value stock on the market, with major impact on the index. This aligns with selling pressure in foreign markets where semiconductor and technology stocks face concerns over earnings and valuations. Middle East tensions also pushed global oil prices higher, which while benefiting upstream energy stocks, increased concerns about inflation and business costs, particularly for transport, petrochemical, and energy-intensive industries. Foreign investors sold a net 1,739.41 million baht, domestic institutions sold a net 1,191.43 million baht, and securities accounts sold a net 3,424.73 million baht, while domestic retail investors bought a net 6,355.57 million baht. Top traded stocks included Delta (down 7.37% to 264 baht, 11,119.74 million baht traded), True (up 5.04% to 14.60 baht, 8,388.14 million baht traded), KBANK (flat at 242 baht, 5,884.10 million baht traded), KTB (down 1.72% to 42.75 baht), and Gulf (up 0.77% to 65.75 baht). Key market drivers included Delta's sharp decline weighing heavily on the index, negative sentiment in chip and AI stocks reflecting foreign semiconductor weakness, Middle East tensions raising oil prices and inflation concerns, and net selling by three major investor groups offset entirely by retail buying.

Tourism Authority Urges Calm Over Italy-China Fan Dispute

Thailand's Tourism Authority is urging calm over an online dispute involving Italian and Chinese tourists, warning that the conflict could damage the country's tourism image if allowed to escalate with major markets.

Tourism Authority Urges Calm Over Italy-China Fan Dispute
30 Jul Khaosod

Thailand's Tourism Authority director Thapanee Keatpaibol said an online dispute involving foreign tourists and fan communities from Italy and China should not be allowed to spiral into a "single drop of honey" that damages the country's tourism image and confidence. She stressed that the incident reflects individual behavior and should not be generalized as representative of an entire nation. The authority is urging careful communication on the matter, as prolonged conflict could harm relations with major tourism markets like China and Italy, and has called for all parties to end the dispute and learn from it. Meanwhile, the authority is watching for potential third-party exploitation—from competing tourism destinations—that may attempt to use social media backlash to undermine Thailand's image. However, current assessments show no broader impact on Thailand's overall tourism sector. The authority has instructed event organizers to exercise greater caution on sensitive issues to prevent similar incidents in the future, while maintaining its existing strategy of using culture and soft power to elevate Thai tourism and ensure long-term sustainability.

Sutin Challenges Thaikor Over Vague Claims on Secret Coalition Deal

Pheu Thai MP Sutin dismissed rival Thaikor's claims of a secret coalition plot to oust the PM as baseless, noting the government is stable and such negotiations wouldn't require meetings in Monaco.

Sutin Challenges Thaikor Over Vague Claims on Secret Coalition Deal
30 Jul Khaosod

Sutin Klangsamrarn, a Pheu Thai party list MP, on July 30, 2025, responded to claims by Thaikor Phollasuwann that a secret "red-green deal" political movement was underway involving discussions in Monaco to gather support for replacing the prime minister. Sutin argued that the coalition government is currently functioning well and no party has shown signs of attempting to topple it, dismissing the allegations as implausible. He pointed out that high-level political negotiations of the kind alleged would not require arranging meetings in Monaco when such talks could easily occur in Bangkok, and noted that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has already stepped back from active political management. Sutin criticized Thaikor for repeatedly making unverified claims, stating that without concrete evidence and detailed explanation, such vague statements only sow confusion and undermine public confidence in politics, which harms the country's progress. He urged Thaikor to present clear evidence or risk losing credibility entirely.

Mae Sai Residents Fear Flooding and Water Safety Linked to Mining

Residents of Mae Sai District blame upstream mining operations for increasingly severe flooding and drinking water contamination, with researchers urging the government to make river cleanup a national priority.

Mae Sai Residents Fear Flooding and Water Safety Linked to Mining

July 30, 2026 — Dr. Suebsakul Kitnugkul, a lecturer and researcher at the School of Social Innovation at Mae Fah Luang University, led a team investigating flooding impacts and water contamination in the Tham Pha Chom and Sai Lom Joi communities of Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province.

Dr. Suebsakul identified two major concerns from residents: increasingly severe and frequent flooding, and loss of confidence in drinking water safety. Residents reported that since 2021, Mae Sai has experienced flooding nearly every year or every other year—a stark contrast to the past when such events were rare. Floodwaters carry large quantities of mud and sediment into communities.

Residents believe mining operations less than 10 kilometers upstream are the root cause, leading to soil erosion and increased sediment in the river. They argue that flooding cannot be solved without simultaneously addressing the environmental damage from mining upstream. Regarding drinking water, although residents rely on municipal water supplies, they remain concerned about safety since the source waters are contaminated by mining activities. The water authority has attempted to switch to raw water from the Mekong River, but pollution tests by the Department of Pollution Control still detect toxins, heavy metals, and sediment in multiple areas—a "jumping from the frying pan into the fire" solution, residents say.

Dr. Suebsakul concluded that contamination in the Kok, Sai, Ruak, and Mekong rivers must be elevated to national priority status. He urged the government to use an upcoming visit by Myanmar's leader on August 6–7 to seriously discuss mining impacts and accelerate upstream remediation before effects expand further and threaten future food security.

Thai Police Clarify Georgia Investigation Framework in Death Case

Thai police clarified that Georgia's investigation into the death of "Hloon Solo" Baworntat Pengsuk using Article 115 of the penal code is a legal framework for gathering evidence, not a conclusion about the cause of death or criminal guilt

Thai Police Clarify Georgia Investigation Framework in Death Case
30 Jul Khaosod

Thai national police spokesperson Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairongkit Phiuphan clarified on July 30, 2569 the death case of Baworntat Pengsuk, known as "Hloon Solo," in Georgia, following reports that Georgian authorities are investigating under Article 115 of the penal code. The police spokesperson stated that Article 115 is a provision related to causing a person to commit or attempt suicide as a result of threats, cruel treatment, or actions affecting the victim's honor and dignity. However, conducting an investigation under this provision does not constitute a conclusion that the death resulted from suicide or that any person committed a crime—it is merely a legal framework used to gather evidence and examine facts comprehensively. Currently, the National Police Office has coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request information and verification from Georgian authorities, particularly regarding official findings and the confirmed cause of death. The Foreign Ministry is the primary agency coordinating with Georgian authorities through diplomatic channels. Coordination through INTERPOL has not yet yielded additional information. The National Police Office will closely follow developments and formally inform the public as soon as confirmation is received from Georgian authorities.
