Thai Election Commission votes on charges against 229 senators and political figures, with findings to be announced September 14; potential prosecution could follow if the majority rules against the accused.
At 10 a.m. on September 14, 2025, the Thai Election Commission began voting on a major case involving 229 accused senators and political figures facing seven charges. Each commissioner submitted individual ballots against all 229 defendants; these ballots were distributed after the fact-gathering phase concluded on August 28. Commission staff will now compile and tabulate the votes, which were discussed in a preparatory meeting on September 11.
The commission will announce its findings at 3 p.m. in meeting room 201, level 2. The accused comprise 138 current senators, 21 deputy representatives and Bhumjaithai Party executives, 20 party network members, and 50 alternate senators and candidates.
Following the vote, the commission office must consolidate the commissioners' majority or unanimous positions into a formal ruling within 60 days. If the ruling calls for prosecution, drafting an indictment for the Electoral Court will take an additional 60 days.
For security, the Election Commission coordinated with Bangkok Metropolitan Police Division 2 and Thung Song Hong Police Station, deploying one full company of officers. Public access and media will remain outside the building until shortly before the announcement, when media only will be permitted to enter for the briefing.
