Thailand's men's badminton team advanced to the Asian Games semifinals by defeating Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the quarterfinals on September 22, with world No. 2 Kulwuthi Wittitasanth and the doubles pairs delivering crucial victories.
Thailand's men's badminton team faced Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals of the 20th Asian Games team competition on September 22 at the Ichihomiya City Municipal Gymnasium. In the first singles match, world No. 2 Kulwuthi Wittitasanth defeated world No. 5 Zhou Tianchen in a three-game thriller, winning 19-21, 21-16, 21-14 to give Thailand a 1-0 lead. The second match featured world No. 36 doubles pair Parkpol Theeraratnosakul and Pirachaya Sukphandh, who battled world No. 15 pair Yang Po-hsuan and Lee Che-hui. The Thai duo won another three-game contest 16-21, 22-20, 23-21, extending Thailand's advantage to 2-0. In the second singles match, world No. 17 Panitchpol Theeraratnosakul faced world No. 23 Shi Yuqi, but Panitchpol retired during the second game at 5-9 after winning the first game 21-15 due to a back injury, bringing Chinese Taipei back to 1-2. The fourth match saw world No. 54 doubles pair Worapol Thongsang and Chaleimpol Charungkijamorr face Liu Guang-heng and Wang Zelu. The Thai pair extended the match to three games before clinching victory 13-21, 21-14, 21-14, securing Thailand's semifinal berth. Thailand will next face either Indonesia or Malaysia in the semifinals.
