Thai Delivery Rider Duped by Korean Won Instead of Yen
A Thai delivery rider thought he'd received a generous 5,000 yen tip until another user revealed the banknote was actually South Korean won, worth only a quarter of the expected value.
On 23 September 2026, a Thai delivery rider shared a photo of a foreign banknote in a Facebook group, saying he had received what he believed was 5,000 Japanese yen from a customer. The rider said the food order cost more than 400 baht, and the customer appeared to give him a 5,000-yen banknote, worth around 1,000 baht. "Tip for you. Good luck, my friend," the customer reportedly told him.
The rider posted the story with a playful caption, writing that it was "sweet from the morning" and jokingly asking, "Can I have this every day?" However, the sweetness quickly faded when another Facebook user pointed out that the banknote was not Japanese yen.
It was actually a 5,000 South Korean won note, worth around 122 baht. The rider had mistaken the Korean currency for Japanese yen, turning what he thought was a generous gesture into an unexpected currency mix-up.
