Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthummaphand and Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiyachon Chidchob revealed on September 23 that leading U.S. financial institutions and investment funds view Thailand as a standout market in Asia, adopting a balanced economic and political policy approach. Speaking at the Bank of America Tower in New York on September 22 (New York local time), they disclosed the results of discussions between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and executives of leading American financial institutions and funds on Thailand's economic direction, investment policies, and future opportunities and potential.
Supachai stated that the discussions emphasized Thailand's policies and potential by presenting economic and capital market developments, including improving performance metrics and the Thai stock market's growth attracting investor interest, alongside the government's commitment to supporting economic growth and creating new opportunities. She noted that investors showed strong interest in Thailand's relationships with the United States and China, adding that Thailand pursues a balanced policy approach designed to create mutual benefit without favoring any side, while prioritizing relationships and cooperation with all trading partners.
"The government prioritizes fiscal discipline while creating an investment-friendly environment to support long-term economic growth and investor confidence," Supachai said. Investors also expressed interest in Thailand's approach to future challenges, particularly energy transition, technology and digital adoption for economic efficiency, and developing new technologies to enhance competitiveness.
Chaiyachon noted that discussions included views on digital and technology policies, with investors particularly interested in digital infrastructure development, especially data centers, as well as environmental and sustainability issues. He emphasized that Thailand can develop partnerships with the private sector to create a technology investment ecosystem, and must increase infrastructure investment and strengthen university collaboration to develop technology talent and expertise, positioning Thailand as a regional technology and investment hub.
Addressing investor concerns about Thailand's aging society and declining birth rate affecting future labor supply, Chaiyachon described these challenges as opportunities for Thailand to deploy technology and innovation to boost work efficiency and offset labor constraints while upgrading workforce skills for the modern economy.
