Thai Skateboarder Finishes 7th at Asian Games, Eyes Olympic Qualification
Thai skateboarding sensation ST Vareeraya Sukekaseam, 14, finished 7th at the Asian Games women's street final and is now focused on qualifying for the 2028 Olympics after vowing to strengthen her competition performance.
The women's street skateboarding final took place on September 27, 2025, at Aichi Sky Expo Hall B during the Asian Games. Thailand sent 14-year-old ST (Vareeraya Sukekaseam) to compete in the championship round.
ST finished in 7th place with a combined score of 102.85 points. She recorded her best run score of 23.24 points before scoring 79.61 points during the tricks portion. Gold went to Zhu Yuanling from China with 166.57 points, silver to Oda Yumeka with 161.96 points, and bronze to Chui Chenxi, also from China, with 156.60 points.
After the competition, ST revealed she was very nervous and under pressure, though less so than in previous events. She felt she had given her best effort today, but was disappointed by how much she faltered. She noted that she performed well during practice but became extremely anxious during the actual competition, feeling disconnected from her body. She acknowledged the mistake and expressed deep regret.
"From now on I'll go back to training and start over, making my techniques more solid and confident. No matter how hard I train, if I can't perform it during competition, it's a mistake. After the Asian Games ends, I need to compete in qualifying events to earn points for the 2028 Olympic Games in the United States. I must focus on each competition and use the Asian Games as a learning experience to understand what I need to fix," she said.
In other action, Thai BMX Freestyle athletes competed in the men's BMX Freestyle Park final. Tao Saichar Petchnum scored his best with 60.80 points to finish 6th, while Tham Rungrueng Phamee earned 54.20 points and finished 7th. The gold medal went to an athlete from Japan.
