Thailand Alerts 53 Provinces, Bangkok on Flash Flood Threat
Thailand’s disaster agency has warned 53 provinces and Bangkok of possible flash floods, landslides and strong winds from October 9 to 13 due to heavy rain. Officials are monitoring weather and water levels around the clock and stand ready to deploy rescue teams. Residents are advised to prepare for flooding and can call the 1784 hotline for help.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) said on October 8 that it is coordinating with 53 provinces and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to prepare for heavy rain expected from October 9 to 13, which may cause flash floods, overflowing streams, landslides, inundation, and strong winds. The agency is monitoring weather and water levels around the clock and will deploy rescue teams and equipment if conditions worsen.
At risk are: Northern – Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani; Northeastern – Chaiyaphum, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani; Central – Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Chainat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Samut Prakan, and Bangkok; Southern – Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Satun.
The DDPM urged local authorities to drain water from flood‑prone areas, prepare temporary shelters, food, drinking water, and coordinate with relevant agencies. For natural tourist sites such as waterfalls and caves, officials should issue warnings and close off areas if danger arises. The public can report incidents and request assistance via the DDPM hotline 1784 or the LINE account @1784DDPM, available 24 hours a day.
