Thailand BMX Team Ready for Asian Games in Japan
Thailand's BMX team of four athletes will compete at Japan's Asian Games on September 28, with coach Harvey Krebs working to fix technical starting issues ahead of races against strong competitors from Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
General Decha Hemkraisoree, vice president of the Asian Cycling Confederation and chair of the Thai Cycling Association, revealed that BMX racing will take place at Nagoya BMX Race Track on September 28, competing for two gold medals in men's and women's racing events. Thailand has four athletes: Gomet Sukprasert, Phutthaphum Nakphaen, Chutikhanya Kitvanichsathian, and Hathaiphet Jaiswang.
Gomet's performances at the 2026 Asian Track Cycling Championships in Malaysia in August were affected by slow starts that disrupted his rhythm. Head coach Harvey Krebs has been tasked with correcting this technical flaw. The main competitors for the Thai riders include Azuma Nagai, Japan's reigning Asian champion, Patrick Bren Cu of the Philippines, and Rio Akbar of Indonesia. General Decha urged all athletes to compete with the same confidence as their training sessions and perform at their highest level.
The track cycling team departed for Japan on September 26 with six athletes: Chudathip Maneepon, Aungsuthasavit, Narasertthada Bunma, Yuenyong Petchrat, Varut Paekratoke, and Sirawit Saenisai. They will compete at Izuo Velodrome in Shizuoka between September 29 and October 2, with eight gold medals available. The short-distance sprinters—Aungsuthasavit, Narasertthada, and Yuenyong—competing in the keirin and team sprint events previously won gold in the 2026 Track Asia Cup in August and hold world ranking 15 and Asian ranking 4, while Aungsuthasavit also won gold in individual keirin and sprint events.
