Thailand Braces For Heavy Rain And Strong Winds
Thailand's Meteorological Department issued its third weather warning for heavy rainfall and strong winds across 51 provinces from September 17–20, with waves in the Andaman Sea expected to exceed 3 meters during storms.
The Thai Meteorological Department issued its third warning on September 16, 2025, concerning heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand and strong winds in the Andaman Sea, with effects from September 17–20. Heavy rain will begin in the North and Northeast on September 17, then spread to the Central, Eastern, and Southern regions on September 18. A high-pressure system and cold air mass from China will push the monsoon trough southward over the lower Central region, East, and upper South, while the strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will intensify conditions.
The department has identified 51 provinces facing heavy rainfall and warned the public to be alert for flash floods and flash flooding in low-lying areas, hillsides near waterways, and basins. Residents should avoid routes prone to repeated flooding, particularly in low-lying zones. Waves in the Andaman Sea are expected to reach 2–3 meters, with waves exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. Fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid thunderstorm areas; small boats in the Andaman Sea should not leave shore between September 17–20.
