Thailand Braces for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Oct 4-7
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued its seventh warning of severe weather from October 4 to 7, forecasting heavy rain, strong winds and possible flash floods across many provinces. The warning lists affected areas, with the worst conditions expected on October 4 in the north and northeast, expanding to central and southern regions by October 5‑6. Residents are urged to stay alert for floods and to take precautions while traveling or outdoors.
The Thai Meteorological Department issued its seventh weather warning for October 4‑7, 2026, forecasting volatile conditions with thunderstorms, strong gusts and heavy to very heavy rain in parts of the country. On October 4, the upper northern and eastern regions and the northeastern region are expected to see the worst weather. From October 5‑6, the impact expands to the north, central plains – including Bangkok and its vicinity – the east and the upper south, while the northeast will experience easing rain. On October 7, the western parts of the north and central regions will still be affected. The warning attributes the weather to a cold air mass from China moving down over the upper north and northeast, interacting with the prevailing southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is advised to guard against flash floods, runoff and landslides, especially in hilly areas near watercourses and low‑lying zones, and to avoid open spaces, large trees and unstable billboards. Wave heights in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand may exceed two metres, prompting mariners to check routes and exercise caution, avoiding travel during thunderstorms. An additional outlook for October 9‑13 predicts increased rainfall across the east, central – including Bangkok – and southern regions, with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas.
