Thailand Issues Flood Alert for 71 Provinces
Thailand's disaster agency issued a nationwide flood alert for 71 provinces expecting heavy rainfall through September 13, with risks of flash floods and landslides across the North, Northeast, Central Region, and Southern Thailand.
On September 8, Theerapat Katchmart, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, announced a nationwide weather alert in coordination with the Meteorological Department. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across Thailand between September 8-13, with risks of flash floods, wild flooding, landslides, and waterlogging.
Alert zones include: all provinces in the North; all provinces in the Northeast; all provinces in the Central Region; nine Southern provinces (Chumphon, Surat Thani, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun); and Bangkok and its surrounding areas.
The Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Coordination Command has notified all 71 provinces, regional commands, and 18 disaster prevention centers nationwide to prepare for increased rainfall and heavy downpours. In high-risk areas where rainfall may exceed 90 millimeters in 24 hours, authorities are instructed to issue warnings and close natural attractions such as waterfalls and caves to prevent accidents. Temporary shelters must be prepared for evacuees, and the public is urged to closely monitor weather updates and official government announcements.
