The Digital Economy Ministry is partnering with the Tourism and Sports Ministry to advance the "Domestic Tourist Information Center" project and upgrade Thailand's tourism platform. On August 4, 2025, Digital Economy Minister Chaiyachanok Chidchob and Deputy Minister Nan Bunthida Somchai held discussions with Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Panjareungvorkul on implementing the initiative.

Minister Chaiyachanok explained that the two ministries are preparing to launch the "Domestic Tourist Information Center" project to enhance Thailand's Tourism Data Platform. The platform will integrate tourism data and services to increase convenience and safety for visitors entering Thailand, while reducing duplication and improving efficiency across shared platforms.

A joint working committee headed by Inspector-General Dr. Phalvorn Vidurkalachit has been established to develop the tourism platform with a focus on security and data integration. This information will support tourism businesses, community enterprises, and SMEs.

Discussions revealed that existing applications from the Tourism Ministry—including Thailand Tourist Police, Amazing Thailand, and the Tourism Wallet system—are well-regarded. The Digital Economy Ministry is prepared to integrate these with the Travel Link platform operated by the Big Data Institute (public organization), or BDI.

The Digital Economy Ministry is committed to developing digital systems to enhance public technological capability and confidence, while supporting government agencies in implementing digital systems for administration and public service delivery.

Community Drug Treatment Model Transforms Lives in Thailand

Community Drug Treatment Model Transforms Lives in Thailand
4 Aug Khaosod

Many believe that once someone falls into drug addiction, their life is ruined forever. But in Ta Itsai Community in Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province, residents are proving that opportunity and community strength can genuinely rehabilitate those who have gone astray.

On February 21, 2025, Dr. Jadej Thammadhatchaari, Secretary-General of the National Health Security Office (NHSO), along with Dr. Sarayut Boonchaipanichawattana, Director of the National Institute for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts (NITRA), and Dr. Somchat Sujitrang, Regional Director of NHSO Zone 4 Saraburi, visited the CBTx Ta Itsai program—a community-based treatment and rehabilitation model for drug users. Local officials including Ta Itsai Municipality Mayor Prida Chueaphudit and Village Head Kasama Ta Itsai presented the community's transformation from a high-risk area into a multicultural harmony zone.

From Red Zone to Multicultural Harmony Village Head Kasama Ta Itsai recalled that in the past, Ta Itsai was a cramped, closed community facing severe drug problems. About 40 percent of residents had fallen into drug addiction, leading to disputes, theft, and domestic violence that created long-standing fear and mistrust.

However, Ta Itsai Community has a population of 16,608 people (6,617 households) embracing religious diversity. It includes Muslim communities (Groups 6, 7, 10), Buddhist communities (Groups 1–4), and multicultural Buddhist-Christian-Muslim communities (Groups 5, 8, 9), with four temples, one mosque, and one Christian church as spiritual centers.

This diversity has been refined through the concept of "white multicultural harmony," transforming differences into collective care strength and leaving no one behind. The Ta Itsai Mosque serves as the spearhead and spiritual center connecting family trust with concrete health services and support networks.

Not Just Suppression, But Treatment with Faith and Rehabilitation Through Systems The CBTx Ta Itsai model's distinguishing feature is that it does not turn patients into "outsiders" but instead treats them in their actual communities through two key mechanisms:

Treatment with Faith: Relying on trust, family strength, and religious principles to support the spirit and reduce stigma, creating a safe space for patients to seek help.

Rehabilitation Through Systems: Integrating all sectors from screening and rehabilitation planning to vocational training, home visits, and continuous follow-up through five critical steps: (1) identification and screening, (2) counseling and rehabilitation, (3) family and community care, (4) network coordination, and (5) continuous follow-up.

Dr. Jadej Thammadhatchaari, Secretary-General of NHSO, stated that drug problems cannot be solved by a single agency. Multi-sector integration and support for strong communities is the answer.

"NHSO's important role is to support communities in strengthening their capacity to care for drug patients within the community itself. We provide budget support through the Local Health Security Fund (LHSF) available nationwide so communities can learn to provide care and use their own context to solve drug problems in their communities. Drug problems cannot be solved by any single agency alone; multiple agencies must work together."

Thailand's First Lunar Mission Launches Nationwide STEM Initiative

Thailand's first lunar instrument launches August 24 aboard China's Chang'e-7 mission, with nationwide livestreaming aimed at inspiring 3 million students in science and technology education.

Thailand's First Lunar Mission Launches Nationwide STEM Initiative
4 Aug Khaosod

Thailand is preparing to send its first-ever scientific instrument to the moon. Deputy Prime Minister Yossanan Wongsuwan announced on August 4 that the country is ready to launch the CE-7 MATCH payload—a Thai-designed and developed scientific device—as part of the Chang'e-7 international lunar exploration mission. The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) is leading the effort in partnership with the Education Ministry, Thai PBS, and Sea (Thailand), with live coverage of the Long March 5 Y14 rocket launch scheduled for August 24.

Yossanan emphasized that this historic achievement represents more than scientific progress—it demonstrates a significant boost to human capital and the government's commitment to an innovation-driven economy. The CE-7 MATCH device will orbit 200 kilometers above the lunar surface and monitor solar storms for three years, generating cutting-edge research while training world-class Thai engineers. Leading economies with strong growth all conduct advanced space research, Yossanan noted, because space-grade research produces technological spillovers that spark new innovations and intellectual property across multiple sectors.

The heart of the Thailand Moonshot initiative, however, is human development. For the first time, the Higher Education and Education Ministries have jointly organized this effort to livestream the historic event to over 3 million young people nationwide. By partnering with global leader Sea Group and its digital platforms reaching 20 million users, Thailand aims to ensure equitable access to STEM education and support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education.

Suspect Surrenders After Police Siege of Palm Oil Plantation
4 Aug Khaosod

Police have intensified their operation following the shooting death of two officers from Takua Pa Police Station, Phang Nga Province, on August 2. Authorities cordoned off a large palm oil plantation behind Prai Wan subdistrict, suspected to be the gunmen's refuge. As officers advanced toward the plantation's center and fired warning shots into the dense brush, suspects called out to surrender. One gunman emerged with hands raised and was taken into custody without incident.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect revealed that the gang of approximately six had fled from Maw Dae mountains after coming under pressure from a three-province task force. He claimed they opened fire on Takua Pa police officers believing they were about to be arrested, resulting in two deaths and injuries. The suspect disclosed the full network of gang members, their criminal history involving economic sabotage and attacks on officials, and locations of hideouts. He also revealed that the weapons used in their network have been linked to multiple unrest incidents in Phang Nga Province.

Authorities are continuing to sweep the palm oil plantation and surrounding areas to determine whether additional suspects remain in hiding. Police Deputy Commander Samran Nuanmaa is preparing to brief media on the operation's results and further investigation plans once the area is fully secured.

DSI Finds Increased Money Trail in Phawuth Case
4 Aug Khaosod

On August 4, Justice Minister Lt. Gen. Rutpol Naowhirat discussed the case of People's Party MP Phawuth Pongsitthiphanu, who appeared before the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). The DSI discovered that financial data in the case had changed from 28 million baht to 33 million baht, relating to loan transactions, prompting a need for further fact-checking. When asked about findings from a QRS Global company server, the minister said it contained comprehensive data and the DSI was expected to uncover significant evidence from it, though details would await the investigation's completion. Regarding when charges could be filed after summons were issued, Rutpol stated that was uncertain because evidence and witness lists continue to expand. The investigation is currently working to examine key individuals, but additional suspects, witnesses, and persons of interest must still be questioned, with the witness pool expected to grow further. When asked if Phawuth's upcoming statement two weeks away would be his last, the minister said it was unclear, but noted that Phawuth has denied all allegations connected to the scamming ring. Former politician and actor Ratchaphoom Tokkongthrap, known as Film, also denied the allegations when he appeared before the DSI.

Court Rejects Urgent Petition in NBTC Chair Dispute

The Central Administrative Court rejected NBTC chairman Dr. Sorin's urgent petition to overturn a finding that his part-time physician work disqualifies him from the position, with a full ruling expected within days.

Court Rejects Urgent Petition in NBTC Chair Dispute
4 Aug Khaosod

On August 4, 2025, the Central Administrative Court rejected Dr. Sorin Bunyaiphaipruck's urgent petition filed the previous day in case number 1455/2569. Dr. Sorin, the NBTC chairman, sought court review to overturn the recruitment committee's finding that he is legally barred from holding the position because of his part-time physician work. He argued the committee exceeded its legal authority and acted without neutrality or transparency, denying him a fair hearing. He also contended that the committee's decision alone cannot remove him from office, as the committee can only nominate candidates for Senate approval.

The court ruled that no urgent interim relief was necessary before a full judgment. The case remains in pre-assignment stages pending judicial panel appointment. Dr. Suphatra Hasuwannakij, a constitutional development adviser, noted that if the court grants temporary protection, the Prime Minister must delay any removal petition; conversely, without court protection, immediate dismissal becomes possible. The Thai Legal Counsel's Committee concluded on August 3 that the recruitment committee has authority to assess qualifications and deemed its decision final. A court ruling is expected within days. Dr. Sorin should cease his duties immediately due to his original lack of qualifications, Dr. Suphatra added, warning that upcoming NBTC meetings on August 5–6 may be disrupted and critical agendas like the digital TV roadmap remain stalled. Legal scholar Wuth Tingssmit viewed Dr. Sorin's court filing as procedurally sound but noted the outcome depends on judicial interpretation.

Police Chief Orders Investigation Into Allegations Ex-Officer Aided Suspect

Police Commissioner orders investigation after allegations surface that a retired officer may have employed a suspect in a five-murder case as an informant around 2013-2016.

Police Chief Orders Investigation Into Allegations Ex-Officer Aided Suspect
4 Aug Khaosod

National Police Commissioner General Kittiphat Phanphetch addressed allegations on August 4, 2026, confirming that police conducted a thorough investigation into the five-murder case involving the suspect. He explained that the investigation began with preliminary questioning, expanded to cases involving foreign nationals, and uncovered additional crimes. The Commissioner expressed regret that a person with such a violent criminal history remains in Thailand but acknowledged legal constraints on police action.

When asked about a witness's claim that the suspect was once a police informant, General Kittiphat said he immediately ordered the Thonglor police station to accept a complaint from the whistleblower. He stated that police are verifying the identity of the alleged officer, noting the informant relationship dates back approximately ten years to 2013-2016. The Commissioner stressed that if any officer is found to have hired criminals as informants, decisive action will follow. He added that the suspected officer likely retired and is under verification by Chachoengsao provincial police. General Kittiphat emphasized that police follow proper investigative procedures and do not favor anyone, but will take action based on evidence if wrongdoing is confirmed.

Bangkok Clinic Sued Over Failed Liposuction Results

Bangkok clinic denies liposuction mistakes, confirming perfect outcomeLegacyA Thai woman sought legal action against a beauty clinic in Bangkok after a liposuction procedure left her with a distorted and wrinkled abdomen instead of the defined six-pack appearance she was promised. The 44 year old woman, identified only as Ying, sought assistance from the Saimai Survive Foundation after spending more than 100,000 baht on the cosmetic procedure. She claimed the outcome differed significantly from the clinic’s online advertisements. Ying said she initially responded to an online promotion offering the six-pack liposuction procedure for 39,999 baht. Believing the clinic was reputable because of its strong social media presence and advertising, she decided to proceed with the surgery. According to Ying, clinic staff informed her shortly before the operation that she would need to pay an additional 70,000 baht. She alleged they warned that refusing the extra treatment would leave her abdomen loose and uneven. Feeling pressured just before surgery, she agreed to pay the higher fee. Photo via Top News After the operation, Ying said the promised six-pack definition never appeared. Instead, she said her abdominal muscles were uneven, swollen and failed to match the appearance she had discussed with the clinic. She said she later questioned the surgeon about the result, but claimed the doctor insisted the outcome was satisfactory. Ying said she strongly disagreed with that assessment. According to Ying, she repeatedly contacted the clinic seeking a resolution, but staff stopped responding and refused to accept responsibility. She also claimed the clinic removed negative reviews she posted on its Facebook page and other social media platforms. Ying later consulted another doctor at a different clinic, who reportedly told her the result would require corrective surgery. She said the estimated cost of the revision procedure was about 300,000 baht. Photo via Facebook/ TalknewsOnline Accompanied by her lawyer, Ying returned to the original clinic to seek compensation for the corrective treatment. She alleged the surgeon maintained that the procedure had produced a good result and declined responsibility, stating that she had signed documents acknowledging the outcome. The doctor instead reportedly offered additional treatment to improve the appearance of her abdomen. Ying declined, saying she no longer trusted the clinic. She also challenged the clinic to publish photographs of her abdomen on its official social media channels if it genuinely believed the procedure had been successful. According to Ying, the clinic refused. Photo via Top News Ying further claimed that several other former clients had contacted her to report similar experiences with cosmetic procedures at the same clinic. The Saimai Survive Foundation said it plans to submit the case to the Office of the Consumer Protection Board, the Department of Health Service Support and the Medical Council of Thailand for further consideration. The foundation added that it is seeking an investigation into the licences of both the clinic and the doctor who performed the operation. The story Bangkok clinic denies liposuction mistakes, confirming perfect outcome as seen on Thaiger News.

Police Order Probe Into Leaked Data of Top Officials
4 Aug Khaosod

National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittarat Panpetch announced on August 4 at Government House that he has ordered the Technology Crime Investigation Division (TCID) to investigate the unauthorized release of personal data belonging to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the Interior Minister, and Interior Ministry officials. He emphasized that while he is not protecting senior officials, he believes people should carefully examine whether such leaked images are genuine, given how advanced digital manipulation technology has become. Kittarat stated that identifying the data source remains challenging and that the Interior Ministry has already denied involvement. He noted that determining whether the leaked images are authentic or artificially created requires thorough analysis from multiple angles. When asked whether victims should file complaints under the Personal Data Protection Act, Kittarat said that depends on investigation results and whether the individuals involved wish to press charges. He stressed the importance of critical thinking in the digital age, where both real and fabricated content circulates on social media, and cautioned against jumping to conclusions without examining the facts.
