Thailand Midfielder Chanathip Ready for ASEAN Cup Final vs Indonesia
Thailand’s veteran midfielder Chanathip Songrasin said he is ready to face Indonesia in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final after a press conference in Jakarta. Head coach Anthony Huddson praised the venue and expressed confidence despite having rotated the squad heavily. The final will take place on October 5, pitting Group A champions Indonesia against Group B champions Thailand.
Chanathip Songrasin, the experienced Thailand national team midfielder, told reporters he is ready to battle Indonesia in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final. Speaking at the pre‑match press conference on October 4 in Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno stadium, he said the team feels fresh after rotating players and is fully prepared for the showdown.
Head coach Anthony Huddson expressed excitement about playing in Jakarta, praising the city and the world‑class stadium that will host the final. He said the squad is in a good position, having had the chance to rest several players, and expects an entertaining, fast‑paced match against an Indonesian side known for its physical, direct attacking style.
Huddson added that reaching the final after just two group matches was a stroke of luck, given the tough group that included defending champions Vietnam, whom Thailand had not beaten in nearly three years. The early qualification allowed the coaching staff to give playing time to all three goalkeepers and other squad members, a principle he had emphasized from the start of the tournament. He acknowledged the risk of fielding a largely changed lineup with only one training session, but said he accepted it because giving every player a chance to contribute was more important than avoiding potential dips in form.
