Thailand's Land Transport Department has announced a new requirement for foreign commercial transport vehicles operating in the country to install GPS tracking devices starting January 1, 2025. According to department director Sarapong Paiturypong, the measure aims to enhance road safety standards to international levels and ensure fair competition with Thai operators. The GPS mandate will apply the same standards used on Thai transport vehicles and allow authorities to monitor routes, control speed, and track driver working hours throughout their operations in Thailand. The Land Transport Department said the move will increase confidence among road users, reduce accidents, and serve as a key mechanism to drive sustainable growth in Thailand's land transport economy.
